With a safety management background that covers such a broad spectrum of industries and trades, combined with my wildland firefighting experience, I offer employers the knowledge and skill sets that, more often than not, would have to be obtained through multiple employees. Authorized to work in the US for any employer

Work Experience

Environmental Health and Safety Consultant

JB Environmental Health and Safety Consultancy - Throughout Northern California January 2015 to Present

As an independent contractor Safety Consultant I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some premier general contractors such as WE O’Neil and Suket on projects ranging from the small to very large in size. I’ve also consulted with state agencies such as the State of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (Mule Creek State Prison expansion) in Ione CA., Additionally, I’ve had the chance to work with multiple utility providers in California as a direct Safety Consultant during the recovery effort in the aftermath of some the massive wildland fires over the last few years. This naturally led to my continued consulting during their “line clearance mission” to mitigate the risk of their powerlines potentially causing wildfires in the future.

Main Responsibilities:

• Technical expert and consultant

• Manage staff performance and facilitate professional development through training, mentoring and coaching.

• Implement programs so that management staff and employees internalize worksite safety practices, fire prevention, material handling/lifting, equipment use and the proper handling of hazardous chemicals.

• Implement safety strategies and best practices; ensure that customer and regulatory requirements are being met.

• Conduct thorough root cause investigations; document and collaborate with operations team to develop reasonable/actionable corrective measures. Above all, communicate results!

• Conduct inspections to identify worksite- and facility-related hazards, and then determine corrective or preventive measures.

• Coordinate fleet safety to comply with DOT regulations. Monitor safety driving telematics daily and work with the management team(s) so that we can continually ensure issues are corrected.

• Communicate safety observations with superintendents/project manager weekly to ensure they are all acted upon.

• Help generate materials for monthly safety meetings. Tailor the monthly meeting agenda to the needs and trends of each location. Monitor and coach regional managers in leading effective safety meetings.

• Ensure new employees complete all driver safety and indoctrination safety requirements before starting work in the field.

• Track and trend safety/quality metrics for each area within the region, and then document and provide data to superintendents monthly.

• Monitor all damage prevention-related recognition and disciplinary actions. Ensure proper documentation and communication.

Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program Manager

Santa Clara County FireSafe Council - Saratoga, CA March 2020 to July 2022

As the Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program Manager for Santa Clara County FireSafe Council I manage a team that includes 6 project managers and 4 project coordinators. We are a nonprofit who’s primary task is creating fuel breaks, escape routes, defensible space etc throughout Santa Clara County in an effort to better prepare the local area for inevitable wildland fires. Being a nonprofit, the vast majority of our projects are grant based. Some of the local government bodies also fund projects for which we manage cradle to grave. Once funds are acquired my job is to create the projects “scope of work” and put the job up for bidding. Once a contractor is chosen via the bidding process for which I manage, the project is scheduled and work will commence. At any given time, we have anywhere from one to six $100,000 + projects in motion simultaneously, all of which my team and I would be managing. My primary role throughout these processes is to oversee all projects, assure quality of work, maintain budgets for all projects and assure all deliverables are met on time and on budget. Once work is completed, I personally verify all the specific requirements written out in the grant have been met before closing the job out and submitting for internal auditing.

My position works very closely with senior management within Santa Clara County Fire, CalFire Santa Clara Unit (SCU), various federal agencies, Santa Clara County Roads and Airports, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space, Los Altos Hills Fire etc.

Additionally, I manage the organizations Home Ignition Zone ( HIZ) inspection program for the entire county as well as the Firewise Community program. Lastly, I manage the counties chipping program which includes a significant amount of administrative work including scheduling and billing. Area Safety Manager

Pacific States Environmental (joint venture SPSG) - Paradise, CA January 2019 to March 2020

As the safety manager for Pacific states Environmental I was tasked with managing the safety program on the disaster recovery mission in Paradise California. Our overall mission in Paradise was the debris removal effort in the aftermath of the Camp Fire that burned in the late fall/early winter of 2018. Pacific States Environmental, along with two other major contractors joined together to create a “joint venture” company known as “PSG”.

At its peak of operations there were upwards of 600 laborers, equipment operators and well over a thousand dump trucks operating in our designated area area. The crews for which I was managing safety for, were removing the debris from the tens of thousands of structures that were lost in the wildland fire. This was made it especially challenging due to numerous factors such as the following;

•The hazardous nature of the material we were removing made it mandatory for all employees working inside of the footprint of the burned structure to wear check suits and respirators along with their regular every day PPE.

• Summer heat in addition to the previously mentioned mandated additional PPE, made implementation of our Heat Illness Prevention Program vital to ensuring our employees made through each shift safely.

• The sheer number of dump trucks, skid steers and excavators, ground employees etc. working in such close proximity to one another created a “struck by” hazard that had to be mitigated continuously and monitored constantly.

Environmental Health and Safety Consultant

Ceres Environmental Services, Inc. - Paradise, CA

October 2018 to February 2019

As a Safety Consultant with Ceres Environmental Services Inc. I have been assigned to a recovery effort for the Camp Fire in and around Paradise California under contract with Cal Recycle. My daily duties consist of safety inspections of approximately 5 to 10 crews per 12 hour shift. These crews are primarily removing debris from sites where a suture, or multiple structures, were destroyed. Testing of the materials have concluded that there are toxins present in the debris sufficient enough to warrant cordoning off “exclusion zones” where the use of class 1 PPE including rubber boots, full tyvek suits, respirators, hardhat, rubber/nitrite gloves etc. are necessary while working within them. Fatigue brought on by extended working hours in cumbersome PPE and working 6 or 7 days a week for extended periods of time, continuous use of heavy equipment, large amounts of contractors brought in from around the entire country to work for varying agencies in the general area, intermixed with all the other hazards associated with working in a wildland fire disaster zone, has created a dynamic that I would say qualifies it as a high risk/high hazard work environment.
