I am an award-winning reporter and accomplished editor whose professional experience and skills include beat coverage of all kinds, feature writing, editing, page layout and production and personnel management. I am interested in positions in marketing, human resources, administrative assistant, IT or communications.

Work Experience

December 2014 to present: Education reporter, Odessa American, Odessa, Texas. Responsible for covering a large school district (33,500 students), the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Odessa College, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and private schools. Also write medical news features and general assignment stories as needed. Now city editor.

August 2013-December 2014 Education reporter, Southeast Missourian, Cape Girardeau, Mo. Responsible for covering three school districts, private schools and Southeast Missouri State University. Also responsible for writing a feature each week for the NeXt page, aimed at kids up through high school.

February 2013-August 2013: News Editor, Garden City Telegram, Garden City, Kan. Responsibilities include page layout with InDesign, taking over some management duties when Managing Editor is on vacation or out of the office; editing stories; some business writing and web responsibilities.

October 2010-February 2013: Managing Editor, Fort Scott Tribune, Fort Scott, Kan.; owned by Rust Communications, the paper is published Tuesday-Friday and is combined with the Nevada (Mo.) Daily Mail on Saturday; supervised three reporters, a sports editor and part-time columnist; edit copy, take photos, report on community events; lay out at least three pages a night with Quark Xpress; update website daily; create photo galleries; blog; file weekly reports with the publisher; some budget responsibility. Designed the Weekend Herald-Tribune for about a year before the weekend papers were separated.
