Tidepool

*** ****** ** #***

Palo Alto, CA 94301

The job posting for the UX Researcher at Tidepool describes the need for someone with diverse experience planning and conducting both quantitative and qualitative research both onsite and remotely, who can collaborate in cross-functional teams, who can consolidate diverse and complex demands into a coherent research plan, who can mentor teammates, and who can communicate gained insights with diverse stakeholders. I am an experienced UX researcher who is an independent, strategic thinker with leadership skills, a passion for collaboration, and an eager mentor and advocate of the insights gained from user research. I am someone who possess the skills and experiences you seek in the temporary role of a UX Researcher.

Since 2018, I have been a contractor for APA Publishing at the American Psychological Association (APA). My role is to create engaging content and advise the Director of Learning Design on improvements supported by usability best practices and ongoing evaluative UX research. The focus of our cross-functional team is to improve customer-engagement for the Statistics, Research Methods, and Cognition suite of online products, which are targeted at the undergraduate college market. We work in a modified agile development cycle using a Kanban framework.

As a UX Researcher at UC Santa Barbara, I led several federally and privately funded collaborative research projects beginning as a doctoral student and rising to an Associate Project Scientist. In this role, I employed both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate error patterns in map use, the intersection between mental and manual manipulation of objects, the design and usability of virtual objects, and the boundary conditions that affect social agency in video-based instruction, which are evidenced by numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations.

As a Media Editor at Pearson Education, I authored a guidebook series in the 1990s to help instructors integrate Internet-based resources into their courses. In addition, I produced and developed complex multimedia products to support the end-user, identified market demands through focus groups, and managed product development to empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and to test innovative digital and hybrid products. I also identified, contracted, and managed creative talent, developed and managed product budgets, and wrote marketing copy. To advance the success of our products, my efforts included organizing and presenting regional workshops to evangelize products and to support our field staff and adopters.

These experiences are representative of my eclectic career and my inquisitive nature. My career drive is to understand how to address user needs in the promotion of meaningful user engagement.

Thank you for your time and attention reviewing my application.

Sincerely,

Andrew T. Stull, PhD
