SENIOR SECURITY OFFICER (ROVER), ARAPAHOE LIBRARY DISTRICT
August 2008 – September 2011
Responsible for covering six libraries for the Arapahoe Library District. Schedules changed from month to month based on the type of incidents that occurred at each library from the previous month, and the seriousness of the situation. It is normal to cover three libraries in one day or more if necessary. Worked 99% of the time without supervisor. If there was an emergency, my supervisor would call to dispatch me to another library and in many cases I would assess the situation and determine rather or not the incident needed to be taken to another level.
The job mostly consisted of making sure that the patrons followed the rules and policies for the library district. When coming on for duty it was my responsibility to check in with the manager/supervisor for any situations prior to me coming on shift, I would check all meeting room schedules so that I would be aware the activities for my shift also to include the study rooms. After all meetings concluded I would clear and secure the area.
While on patrol checked all emergency exit doors to make the alarms where set, checked bathrooms all open areas including lunchrooms, mechanical rooms, data room, (entire building), regularly check for hot spot area's for theft such as DVD and pickup areas for any DVD's put on hold for the patrons. Some of the time if I thought a patron was luscious, I would conduct an extra patrol of the area; my job also included monitoring the computers in case the patrons were on a web site not authorized.
I also assisted patrons when they come to the library (general information) locations of books, helping the sign up for new library cards also assisted with some minor computer issues. Show patrons how to make reservations and how to submit and print their jobs from the computer. In some cases, if the network when down I would re-set the computer. If the library was very busy, I would assist the patrons standing in line sometimes I would help doing checking’s and more. If the patron was having problems checking out I would also help. I would do this sometimes to monitor the area by shelving DVD's and items for the hold area.
Write incident reports; have banned patrons until they met with the manager of security. Have been in situations with disruptive patrons to the point of breaking up fights, agreements, emergency situations (calling 911) have worked along with the Sheriff's dept. on different situations. Put in all types of call tickets (maintenance) building and grounds.
Assisted with closing for all libraries’ (SECURING THE BUILDINGS) A lot of the times I would close the building along while the librarians close out the cash registers. Monitored camera's from to 2 to 3 hours a day off and on for the entire district.
