Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Senior Staff Nurse

Manage complex neonatal care such as, cooling, HFOV, inhaled nitric oxide. Actively involved in the teaching and education of student nurses, junior staff nurses and parents. Consistently monitoring babies health and wellbeing, using methods of monitoring, direct observation and assessing babies response to care provided.

Using enhanced clinical judgement to accurately assess and recognise the deterioration in a babies condition and report concerns to medical staff in a timely manner. Confidently liaise with MDT.

Actively participate in any research studies the unit is currently involved in. Ability to remain calm and work well whenever there is a neonatal emergency. Frequently carry the crash page for any emergencies within labour ward. Adhering to local and national guidelines to ensure all care given is gold standard and current. Attending all relevant study days to ensure my practice is kept up to date. Ensuring Learnpro is kept up to date, again ensuring I provide gold standard. Actively involved in discharge planning, including parent craft, ensuring a smooth and timely discharge home, with nurse liaison support if required.
