Remarkable Achievements in Qatar and Kuwait Oil Sectors:- A] QATAR PETROLEUM – QP HALUL ISLAND

The World's 2nd largest (110KM) Sub-Sea underground 132KV Cable network was commissioned by me in the year 2018-19 for supplying power from Kahramaa QP-Halul s/stn to QP Halul Island. I was fully associated with Engineering upto final commission of this unique s/stn. The great challenge was to control over Voltages developed in the line due to the high MVAR generated by the cable. To resolve all, it was decided to install 220KV 1- POLE break GIS along with the installation of PSD devices (PHASE SYNCHRONING DEVICE) for controlling the 132KV line between the 02 s/stns. In addition, 02 nos 60MVAR Line reactors were provided at both ends of the line to consume high MVAR generated by the cable. Finally, Power Factor Correction equipment was required at both ends for a smooth supply of Power to QP-HALUL Island.

B] KUWAIT NATIONAL PETROLEUM COMPANY (KNPC-KUWAIT) On joining to ABB Kuwait, I received a unique project to design, get approval from KNPC, develop Proto-type and on satisfactory simulation tests of the same, commission an Auto and Manual Change over Scheme on a live 11KV Incomer s/stns from which power was feeding to its process. Any maloperation during the commissioning of a newly developed system on a live Incomer Feeder could cause a huge loss in the production of oil. During design and Engineering, I used Numerical relay type CAP 505 and developed logic in it based on Customer requirements. The great challenges were to work in live incomer feeders and implement a new system in it which was not existed before. It took nearly 06 months to complete the entire task. Subsequently, ABB-Kuwait received similar orders for all of their Incomer feeder s/stns.

SAEP Certified EHV Systems Control Engineer – KAHRAMAA, Qatar ( 2020 TO TILL NOW)

Transferred from KAHRAMAA Electricity Transmission department to KM-System Control department (NCC,National Control Centre) in July’2020. Key responsibilities holding in CS departments are:-

Switching, operation, maintaining, controlling, releasing, restoration of Qatar’s entire Electrical Networks ( 400 KV to 11 KV).

Issue all types of work permits and other safety documents from NCC to accomplish work in KAHRAMAA network and Bulk-Consumer network.

Maintenance and trouble shooting of entire KM EHV network is one of the prime responsibilities of Control System Engineer.

Co-ordinate with all QEWC and PP power plants and control the load flow of KM-EHV Systems.

Working as a System Control switching engineer for commissioning of all new EHV S/STNS and Power Plants.

Started my career with KAHRAMAA Transmission Protection department from Nov’2007 and continued till June’20. Key responsibilities holding in Electricity transmission department are :-

Cleared Senior Authorization theoretical and practical test from KAHRAMAA Transmission Department in the year 2008 and received SAEP Certificate in the year 2008 and thus, authorized for switching, operation, release, restoration of entire KM Networks from 11KV up to 400KV.

Involved in Annual Maintenance work (ETP) for 1 year.

Worked as a KCT Commissioning Engineer from 2009 to 2020. Commissioned almost 80 nos HV/EHV S/stns duly constructed by EPCs from Phase VII to Phase XIII.

Provided Kahramaa representation at site in monitoring and co-ordinating the site activities of EPC Contractors and sub-contractors for all electrical installations with specific focus on Transmission protection schemes, HV equipment tests, Primary injection tests, Stability tests OCC, SCC tests of Generators, Staggering tests etc.

Being a Head of the Service department, I had given an additional charge to work as a Project Manager for a Project valued up to 200000 KD. At the time of discharge of duties from ABB Kuwait, I was working as a PM for 07 projects along with taking care as a Group Leader of the Service department (Electrical Power system).

Appeared for Authorization tests in MEW-Kuwait in the year 2005 and received Authorization Certificates from MEW-Kuwait to work in their live s/stns from 11 KV to 400 KV level.

To participate in AMC Contract with Ministry of Electricity & Water-Kuwait and execute the job as per term and conditions laid down by MEW-Kuwait. Each contract duration was for 03 years and work responsibilities mainly consisted of full maintenance of MEW-EHV S/STSNS.

To Participate in the Tendering process in KNPC (Kuwait National Petroleum Company) and KOC ( Kuwait oil company) for the Sub-Station related projects and Execute the job as per terms and conditions governed by the Oil Companies.

To impart training to Client Engineers, Consultant and other Sub-Contractor Engineers on the product supplied by ABB.

Successfully passed out Senior Authorization test from KAHRAMAA(Qatar) ET department in the year 2008for switching and operation of all KAHRAMAA HV/EHV S/STN Equipment up to 400 KV. Successfully Passed out Senior Authorization test from System Control department for Operation and Control of Qatar’s National Grid from NCC-Qatar in the year 2020 and responsible for Control and operation of Qatar’s EHV system from 33kv to 400 KV as well as controlling of total Generation of Qatar as well as GCCIA Grid.

Successfully passed out Authorization test from MEW-Kuwait in the year 2005 and obtained total authorization to carry on work in MEW-Kuwait Network up to 400kv level. Almost 80 s/stns (33 KV to 400 KV) have been commissioned by me over last 26 years in KAHRAMAA, India, Bangladesh and Kuwait and thus, interacted deeply with several Multinational Contractors, Consultants, all project managers, Design engineers, National control centre, Operation and maintenance team, Technical affair project team and State Electricity Boards of various Countries and States.

First ever ‘One and half Breaker’ scheme was introduced in Kahramaa 400kv s/stn(Qatar) in the year 2013 where I was deeply involved in preparation of technical specification, technical workshop, design review meeting, pre-commissioning testing, commissioning and commissioned the system successfully. SOM (System operation Memorandum) for this new one and half Bkr scheme was prepared and uploaded to our SOM book.

Commissioned successfully first ever 400KV Gulf Grid (GCCIA) PROJECT in the year 2014 where Qatar and Saudi Arabia is connected with 400kv Double circuit lines passing through 400kv LZS-KM S/stn. It was a great challenge to match Qatar standard with Saudi Arabia and GCCIA standard however we could come of a solution and implemented successfully. World 2nd longest (110 km) 132kv double circuit cable network between QP-Halul-Qatar (On shore) and Halul Island (off shore) was successfully commissioned by me. It was one of the toughest challenges I have ever met and successfully executed. There are several additional design requirements came up during Pre-commissioning tests which were not common in similar voltage level however, resolved all issues successfully. 220kv QSTEC (Qatar Solar Technology in Ras Laffan) s/stn was commissioned by me. Interviewed several engineers of contractors and Consultants in Qatar for their Field Authorization test and ensured engineers are well competent on Kahramaa safety norms and system knowledge.
