UKSATSE, Odessa Airport Ukraine - Air Traffic Controller

2009 – March 2022

My responsibilities included:

Implementing flight and traffic management plans at Odessa Airport, as

well as controlling air traffic, maximising efficiency and safety whilst

minimising delays.

During my time at Odessa I achieved a 100% success rate in:

● Maintaining radio and phone contact

● Coordinating controls with adjacent sectors

Tasked with assisting pilots, I was involved in all aspects of flight

planning including navigation, general procedures and NOTAMS, issuing

instructions and maintaining detailed report logs & databases and

supporting overall airport operations, such as emergency coordination

and ATC services.

Balancing multiple competing and simultaneous responsibilities within a

deadline-driven, high-pressure environment, whilst ensuring on-time

completion of all tasks.

Dealing with both IFR flights and VFR flights, Odessa International

Airport is located in the southern part of Ukraine and manages around

60 aircraft per 24 hours.

The radius of the controlled zone is approximately 20 km to the South and

North of the aerodrome and 10 km both East and West with an altitude up

to 1900 feet. Ground Control issues ATC clearance for flights and for start

up and push back, if necessary, and ensures that pilots have received ATIS

information before the flight.
