Norfolk State University - Norfolk, VA

August 2015 to Present

Worked to improve Norfolk State from a 3-24 team in 2015 to becoming a powerhouse in the MEAC conference over the next 4 seasons. Was vital in recruiting several players who led Spartans to a 10-1/2 game turnaround in 2016-17, which tied for the eighth-best improvement in Division-I that season. In addition, Norfolk State’s 12-win improvement was the largest single-season increase in program history. The Spartans went 15-15 and 9-7 in conference to tie for the third-most victories in the D-I era, recorded their first .500-or-better season since 2001-02 and posted a winning record in MEAC play for just the fourth time ever.

Norfolk State led a stifling defense to success in 2016-17 Was instrumental in leading a squad ranked third in the MEAC in scoring defense, allowing just 57.8 points per game, and held opponents to 33.4 percent shooting, the third-lowest mark in all of D-I. The Spartans blocked 178 shots, the most in the program’s D-I era and the second most in team history, and led the MEAC with 5.9 rejections per game. Nationally, Norfolk State ranked sixth in blocked shots per game and 19th in total blocks. The Spartans blocked 213 shots in 2017-18, the fifth-most nationally and the most in program history. NSU averaged 7.3 blocks per game behind the historic efforts of Khadedra Croker. Croker set the single- season program record with 93 rejections and ranked third nationally with 3.4 rejections per game. Norfolk State recorded 10 or more blocks seven times, including a 14-block performance in the season opener at VCU.

Helped lead NSU to a second-consecutive winning season in 2018-19, going 17-15 overall and 10-6 in the MEAC, marking the second-ever occurrence of back-to-back winning seasons in the Spartan’s Division I history.

NSU found postseason success in 2018-19 as well, finishing as runner-up at the 2019 MEAC Tournament. The Spartans made their fourth-ever MEAC Tournament championship game and their first since 2005. They reached the final day of the tournament with a 60-43 upset win against top-seeded North Carolina A&T in the semifinals – the Aggies entered the tournament with an unblemished conference mark and a 28-game winning streak against MEAC opponents.

That win over N.C. A&T was the 50th for the Spartans between the 2016-17 and 2018-19 seasons, making Vickers’ first three full seasons at the helm the second-most successful three-year period in program DI history.

NSU’s 10-win conference campaign in 2018-19 marked the third-straight winning MEAC season, a feat that had never been accomplished before. Additionally, the Spartans hit double-digit conference wins for only the fifth time in their DI history. Hamilton also was vitale in helping lead Norfolk State during the Coronavirus ending season of 2019-20 which was abruptly ended after a huge win in the MEAC tournament over Howard University. The team finished 19-11 and featured the 2020 National player of the year Chanette Hicks who was recruited with the help of Hamilton.
