If I only rely on the company platform like others, there would be many angry callers.

Filipino (30) colleagues would suddenly transfer English calls to me, since they can’t find the Account from the platform. As they know, I am the only person who can find the new accounts better. Even though they have been taught by a specialized Trainer starting from Batch 2 to 6.

I am the pioneer for the Mandarin dept. Company hired only 2 Mandarin speakers for the first 6 months. At the beginning, we have 40 accounts.

Other Mandarin speakers have lower salary, as their Mandarin is not good as ours. The 2 Filipino CSR studied in China for 4 years as scholar sent by Lucio Tan. They only learned business Chinese.

Test accounts have increased to over 350 accounts from 40. Non-stop calls.

Received our 13th month pay on Dec 15 and 14th month pay of 21K pesos on Feb 1, 2020. On April 2020 I received 10k pesos.

Almost every month I get a prize. On October, I received cash for 2k pesos. I used the prize money to buy the noise cancellation extension wire 降噪延長綫for my inbound calls. Calls were very clear. I seldom get static calls after installation.

Last day before the first lockdown. I bought an ASUS laptop X555Q. 1 Terabyte HDD. Installed extra drive SSD with 120 GB. And extra RAM increased to 12 GB.

Work at home. After connecting to RJ Globus IT office. Technicians use AnyDesk (remote desktop application) to install the needed software to my laptop.

Also bought a 24“ Asus VP249QGR monitor. As we need 2 screens (to open 4 windows) for faster files checking.

Mandarin English Technical Translator at IK Plastics

On site translation for IK Plastic Electrical Engineer from English to Chinese.

Chinese to English technical translation (mechanical, electrical, electronics, welding) for Chinese Electrical Engineer.

Help translate why circuit breakers should be replaced and correct amperage. Electrical panel manufactured for use in China was replaced with higher amperage due to constant tripping (electricity cut-off). IK Plastic has high voltage and need to be replaced with lower amperage requirement. For circuit breaker to work effectively and protect the extruding machine from damage.

They (Chinese Manufacturer/Engr of protruding machine, Chinese Secretary, Chinese Engr., Japanese Plant Mgr, Thailand Plant Mgr, Filipino Engr.) were surprised I was helping them assemble the machine.

Translator usually translate only. But I was actually helping them assemble. I have electronics, auto-mechanic background. I know exactly what they are doing.

I have my own set of tools at home. (3 sizes of socket wrench (1/4, 1/2 & 3/4 inch, Allen wrench, adjustable wrench, etc. Most of them I bought in US and Taiwan.

While the Chinese Engineer (Engr) was modifying (stainless steel block) the machine cover.

I noticed the Engr was having a hard time modifying the cover. It took the Engr 30 minutes to finish the metal cover.

While the Chinese Engr was grinding the first cover, I informed the Filipino plant Engr. which grinding tool to buy.

The 1st cover was not done properly due to incorrect grinding tools. Irregular shape cover. Japanese Plant Manager was not happy.

The Chinese Engr made another one. The spare block ( 2nd cover ) was finished in 5 minutes, as the right grinding tool I ordered arrived. Almost like machine made.

But the Japanese Plant Mgr. still insist of a machined (grind) cover. Instead of a modified (man-made) cover. IK Plastic will pay for the stainless-steel block cover.

Japanese Plant Manager want the machine to run at 690 rpm (Revolutions Per Minute) but could only run at 620 rpm safe sound level (not exceeding 85 decibel for safety).

On the 3rd day, 2 hours before 5 pm. I noticed he was very slow in labeling (sticker) the electrical cabinet. Though not part of my job. I helped Chinese Engineer in labeling the Electrical panel to English. Checking his Bi-lingual laptop with blueprint (chart/ diagram ) to ensure the part being labeled is correct.

Because we finished on time. After work when I was about to be sent off by company van to the bus station. IK Plastic Plant Manager decided to treat me a sumptuous dinner with the Chinese Electrical Engr. similar to Kamayan restaurant. Dinner receipt was over 3k pesos.

All expenses paid round trip bus fare, including scooter parking fee paid in cash by the Treasurer.

Free breakfast, 10 am and 3 pm meals, coffee and mineral water. Authentic Japanese Bento food worth 250 pesos every day.

Salary : 3,000 pesos/ day = 9,000/ 3 days.

On that same day, I went to work at Datamatics- RJ Globus at Ortigas ( PSI online ) before 12 midnight. And worked til 9 am.

Mr. Xiong (Mechanical Engineer) and Director.

Help translate the Mechanical, electrical/ plumbing work of Mr Xiong to Filipino Mechanical Engineer and Technicians to English and vise versa.

The project had been delayed since May this year.

Mr Wang (Engineer & protruding machine manufacturer) was amazed that I was actually helping in the assembly of the machine. Most Translators would just translate and doesn’t know how to use the tools to assemble.

At the stone crushing plant. I translated the Chinese characters and diagram (Electrical terminology) written by the Electrician on the electrical panel to English.

The Plant Owner promoted the 2 Filipino Carpenters to Plant Technicians without knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical terms.

The Chinese Technician had been in the Philippines for almost a week. He is angry because both Carpenters still cannot understand the work flow.

I explained the Electrical and Mechanical terms in simple English and Tagalog for the Technicians to understand.

8 Filipino-Chinese Translators were required to drive the lunch truck, even though they have no Taiwan Driver’s license. They were given tickets by the police and must pay NT$15,000 for driving without license otherwise the government will not allow them to leave Taiwan. Translators are now stuck with the NT$ 25k fine. Company doesn’t pay for the violation ticket.

Year 1993 Taiwan was experiencing a lot of building fires & death nationwide year at KTV's, hotels, restaurants, The Taichung branch 台中市, requested me to go to Taichung to translate Fire drill seminars for the Canon camera female dormitory – Firemen teaching the OFW how to use extinguisher, not to use the elevator in case of fire, no pushing, leave all personal belongings, and other lessons related to fire.

At the roof top, I showed the female OFW's how to use the fire escape equipment.

In my office attire, I locked the safety harness (belt) of the Emergency Escape Equipment 紧急下降机 around my waist. Walked to the edge of the building and climb down the side of the building from 5th floor to ground floor. The equipment allowed me to have a slow descend. All the OFW's watched me from the roof edge. The high-tensile strength braided synthetic rope (weight capacity 1,200 pounds) was short of 1 meter. I had to shout out to the guard to bring me the chair to step-on. For me to un-buckle the harness properly. There were no gloves to grab the side of the building. If the fire really broke out. OFW’s would have been stranded (died) on top of the building.

The 2nd day I wanted to do it again. But Taichung Branch Manager Mr. Wu said he wanted to climb down the side of the building too. He said I am already famous for doing the emergency escape stunt. He did it very smoothly due to my last stunt. Longer ropes were replaced before he started. Company also included 3 set of thick gloves.

PS. I have the Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point book which I bought in US.

I’m still able to update myself on Word and Excel even though the book I brought is from year 2000. There is only slight difference.
