Headhunted to manage all aspects of the construction of a new 5-star hotel to be operated by Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) as a Citizenship by Investment (CBI) project.

As a Project Head, involved in every aspect of Project Management including finalization of design, on-site management of the construction contractors and Owner’s team, and procurement of all services associated with the fit-out and servicing of a 5-star hotel.

Senior Project Manager: Jun 2016 – Mar 2018

A technology driven, Railway Infrastructure contracting company and subsidiary of EOH Holdings Limited, employing 600 staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruited by the company and assigned with the responsibility to turn around a challenged Railway re-signaling infrastructure technology project on behalf of Thales.

Directed a range of workforce and project management initiatives to complete this Thales technology project for PRASA. Managed all the activities pertaining to the project such as health and safety, schedule, cost management, HR management, quality, procurement, and risk management. Authority for US$120M and 400 staff.

Completed a company-wide performance management review and instilled pride, discipline, and self-belief into staff, setting the pace for a high-energy, high-performance culture that supported significant project refocusing.

Gained rapid traction within short period of 10 months after assuming responsibility and the initiation of the project. Successfully achieved progress from 5% at June 2016, to 43% at December 2017.

Hired to utilise strong bulk materials project experience on this mega ship-loader and stacker/reclaimer replacement exercise for the largest coal export port terminal project in the world.

Tasked to oversee all aspects of contract execution on behalf of Richards Bay Coal Terminal. Contract value US$90M.

Managed contracts and took full responsibility for all contractual matters undertaken by the Company and prepared all other relevant contractual documents, as required, to ensure corporate interests are protected and to reduce Company risks in all contracts executed.

Proposed, negotiated, reviewed and agreed the most suitable and relevant clauses/terms and conditions for inclusion in tenders/contracts, prior to the execution of the tender/contract and eliminated contract exposure, reduced company risk and protected corporate interests in accordance with company procedures and guidelines.

Monitored contract performance and compliance in accordance with the contract, contract management plan, risk management plan and organizational policies and procedures.

Delivered professional expertise and project oversight to ensure Aurecon’s International engineering knowledge was effectively transferred to the South African enterprise, successfully completing the project as the first South African based project manager for the company.

Hatch Africa, Johannesburg, South Africa

Project Manager: November 2007 – March 2012

Hatch Africa is a Toronto, Canada based international leading consulting engineering company focusing on infrastructure, mining, and general construction projects with 1,200 staff in Africa (2008).

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the construction of the heavy haul iron ore export railway line electrical supply upgrade from 45 Mtpa to 60 Mtpa export volumes through the port of Saldanha Bay.

Project manage all aspects of the multi-disciplinary engineering and construction teams of the extended 860 km railway line construction works associated with the 50 kV upgrade project.

Responsible for total project delivery of the multi-million-dollar project for the South African railway service utility, Transnet.

Manage the construction of an 8km diverted Manganese export railway line to enable the expansion of the Kumba Iron Ore mine at Sishen. This new built railway line included the construction of new formation works, perway, OHTE, and signaling, and a new concrete rail-over-rail bridge.

Manage the Feasibility Studies to increase the capacity of the Manganese Railway export line from Hotazel to Coega export harbour.

Engineering Manager for the feasibility study to construct a new Manganese export facility at the Port of Ngqura, and relocate the existing manganese export terminal from Port of Port Elizabeth to Ngqura. The study included a rail yard, wagon tippler, yard conveyors, stockpiles, stacker/reclaimers, and shiploaders.

Engineering Manager for the refurbishment of the Port Elizabeth Manganese export terminal for Transnet Papital Projects. Project entailed refurbishment of wagon tipplers, yard conveyors, stacker reclaimers, and shiploaders. Project Manager for the new stacker / bucket wheel reclaimer which was procured and constructed through FAM / ELB.
