I worked in the Quality Department as the Patient Safety Officer, Regulatory compliance/Joint Commission Liaison, Emergency Management Coordinator, and Therapy Dog Program Director. April 2020 – April 2022 served as the facility Infection Preventionist. I performed chart reviews, regulatory rounds and education, emergency management drills within the hospital and community. I am well versed in NHSN and COMET abstractions.

I have a trained Therapy Dog who visits patients in hospitals, nursing homes, mental health facilities and 911 call centers.

Transfusion Services Supervisor 5/2003 – 8/2012

Springhill Medical Center (Mobile, AL)

I held a full-time position in a 252 bed full service hospital serving southwest Alabama. My oversight included the Transfusion Service, Point of Care, Open Heart Lab, and off-site record storage. I oversaw all aspects of quality control, quality assurance, compliance, policy/procedure development, inventory management, and training in these areas. I am very familiar with FDA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO regulatory guidelines. I played a major role in department financial decisions, which includes cost analysis and feasibility reports. I also provided a number of audit reports monthly to hospital administration and nursing service. I regularly served as a College of American Pathologist Inspector.

I oversaw autologous blood collection and processing within the hospital for our orthopedic patients and therapeutic phlebotomies for our outpatients

I had developed and oversaw the Clinical Immuno-Hematology training of two MLT students per year from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and one MT student from Auburn University in Montgomery. I gave lectures and power point presentations at both nursing orientation and for graduating nursing school students. I regularly developed and participated in providing Continuing Education presentations throughout the hospital.

I worked full time as a Medical Technologist in this 175 bed rural hospital. I gained experience working all shifts and areas of the laboratory. I spent several months working closely with the laboratory director on a special project to bring the microbiology department back into the hospital and in compliance with Joint Commission standards.

I was a member of the “Measurement Team”, an 8 member team responsible for reviewing the Press Ganey hospital surveys. It was the team’s responsibility to spot trends and make suggestions for process improvement. I was also included in the “Vaughan Voyage” leadership training program.
