●Assigned to a student 17 years old, who is diagnosed with Cerebellar Ataxia. He is at the form 5 level and has difficulties with mobility and remaining focused. I scribe his notes for him and try to find alternative methods for him to revise and absorb his work.

May 2021 – September 2022

Assigned to a student 9 years old. She has remedial difficulties and behavioural difficulties. I assist in keeping her on track with school work, understanding difficult concepts, modernizing learning techniques to suit her learning style.

Developmental Services Worker April 2021 to July 2021

SB – 42 years old male adult, diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. S is confined to his wheelchair and has minimal movement of the arms and legs due to muscle spasms. I assist him in improving his listening skills and focusing on strengthening his gross motor movements to improve his quality of life.

SM – 9 year old female, diagnosed with ADHD. I assist her with increasing her confidence through outdoor and indoor interactive games, and online software. I also assist in keeping her focus during class and provide alternative strategies for learning difficult concepts and topics in class.

LJ – 6 year old boy, who has Autism, accompanied by Echolalia. I work with him 2 – 3 times a week for a maximum of 2 hours and a minimum of 1 hour dependent on the day. His sessions comprise of practicing and teaching, sequencing, communication, life skills, math, fine and gross motor skills, self-regulation, instructional control.

Developmental Services Worker January 2018 to 2020

TW - 10-year-old boy, who has Down Syndrome and attends a main stream school. Working daily, during the school term, I am required to assist him with understanding the classwork concepts at his own pace, socialize and communicate with his pairs and teacher inside and outside the classroom, developing and maintaining a school routine, all while increasing his independence and confidence to perform these routines. I also accompany him to his therapy sessions, both Occupational and Speech therapy, and work with the therapists to improve his quality of life at school, environmentally, academically and socially.

This involves developing programs customized to facilitate the improvement in the quality of life of individual persons with disabilities, as well as, working one on one with these individuals in their different settings during the day.

I have been working one on one with students within the five (5) to ten (10) year age bracket in the schools in which they attend. Daily work involves improving their life skills, behaviour modification, social skills, physical skills and independent skills to improve their quality of life. The students I worked with in this age group are persons on the autism spectrum, persons who have a dual diagnosis of down syndrome and autism and cerebral palsy.

Teacher Senior B, Children with Special Needs September 2015 to June 2016

Senior B consisted of six (6) students, ranging from ages 13 to 21, with disabilities ranging from Autism, ADHD to speech impediments. Together with my assistant, we worked individually with each student to improve their social skills, impart life skills, encourage their involvement in sports or physical activities of their preference, teach them simple personal and public information, and facilitate the adoption of appropriate behaviour in different settings and improving communication skills.

During this time, I worked for two terms assisting the Senior 1 head teacher follow through with the class schedule for each day, creating short term goals for the students and assisting students with activities both fine motor, gross motor and communication, and assisting those students who needed individual attention to pursue activities. Working with a total of 24 adults, all with a range of developmental disabilities ranging from ages 20-50yrs. I worked with groups of 6 adults every 45minutes.

September 2013 to December 2014 - Self Employed Developmental Services Worker

Worked with a young boy, 8 years old, who has down syndrome. The focus was on developing his writing skills, improving his gross motor skills through the use of full body exercises and exercise equipment to strengthen the muscles and implementing an individualized program which assisted in his behavior change.
