Neonatal Nurse Practitioner • Norton Children’s Hospital, Louisville, KY 1998-Current

• Deliver autonomous, evidence-based medical management of premature infants and neonates with surgical, cardiac, and medical conditions, and chronic illness from admission through discharge.

• Attend high-risk deliveries, resuscitate, and stabilize critically ill patients.

• Review maternal and birth histories, assess, diagnose, and formulate medical care plan and evaluation of new admissions.

• Perform procedures including neonatal resuscitation, intubation, umbilical catheterization, arterial puncture and catheter placement, lumbar puncture, and thoracentesis and thoracotomy.

• Teach and supervise Neonatal Nurse Practitioner students, orient new Neonatal Nurse Practitioners employees, and participate in team teaching rounds.

• Daily review of patients medical data, order and interpret tests results, and direct care based on clinical findings.

• Document electronic admission history and physical, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

• Consult and collaborate with specialists and ancillary teams members.

• Form relationship with parents, providing daily communication of changes in clinical condition and care plan alterations.

• Conduct ongoing discharge assessment and execute discharge plan including ordering home health care, medications, specialty formulas, equipment, and supplies, verifying completion of newborn screening tests and vaccinations, ordering outpatient specialist referrals and follow up appointments, evaluating family needs and barriers to home care, and communicating with primary care provider to ensure effective transition of care.

• Participate in enrollment of research participants, data collection, and implementation of research protocols.

• Assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnostic codes and utilize CPT billing codes. Education
