Maternity unit

Midwife 2021 – 2022

Working as a primary health care provider in collaboration with obstetricians/gynaecologist.

Providing direct patient care and managing the pre-natal, antenatal, inpatient and follow-up care for women (including deliveries).

Establishing a trusting relationship with clients and their significant others. Ensuring all questions are answered thoroughly.

Building productive working relationships with other colleagues at the hospital.

Providing vulva toileting for women after Caesarean section.

Repositioning and turning of patients after Caesarean section.

Providing reproductive health services and counselling to adolescent in prevention of teen pregnancy, transmission of STI/HIV, and sexual violence related injuries.

Educating pregnant women on danger signs such as severe abdominal pains, bleeding, convulsive fits, headaches, increase or decrease movement of the foetus.

Administration of oral, intramuscular and iv medications as prescribed.

Recording and balancing of input and output fluid chart .

Rotated between the units but worked mainly on labour ward, full time 39hrs per week.
