The Braven Accelerator – Kansas City, MO 08/2021 – 12/2021 Fellow and project manager

● Developed skills critical to success in the 21st century workforce such as leadership, operating and managing, communicating & networking, working in teams, and problem solving.

● Created a college roadmap using the SMART goals method to stay on track in pursuing career objectives.

● Coming from a third-world country and immigrating to the US, I have seen the discrepancies in the standards of healthcare. I’m very passionate about providing care and I dedicate myself to making a change for those who need and deserve care. I have always wanted to work in a hospital setting. Growing up as a young child in Kenya, my father was severely ill. Every time I got the chance to visit him, I enjoyed taking care of him and playing the role of a nurse. I would assist him with his daily activities, check his insulin level, and administer medication.

I believe that I am halfway to accomplishing my career path. Braven has helped me get there by helping me strengthen my resume and ultimately helped me get a new job in the hospital. I need to accomplish finishing nursing school and getting a job in the nursing field. I want to make the highest quality of patient care my number one priority. I feel I am good at that. The smallest things can make a difference in caring for a patient and I want to be sensitive to that. Like asking them to get a fresh cup of iced water makes them feel so appreciated. I have learned to observe the room and after I do their vitals, I make sure that they have a warm blanket and a fresh cup of water so that they don’t have to wait hours. I like observe things and offer them to the patients without them having to ask. Being sensitive to people’s individual needs is key. As project manager I had to be sensitive to different people needs and work styles. In the next 5 years I want to go back to school and get my doctorate and become a nurse anesthetist because I really enjoyed interning in the operation room but didn’t want to do the surgery. Nurse anesthetist has a very important role that fascinates me. I chose this because I believe that the RN anesthetist is more present for the patient and the doctor is just their part of the time. Truman Medical Center – Kansas City, MO 06/2018 – 08/2018 Volunteer

● Assisted with patient discharges, answering calls, restocking supplies. HONORS & AWARDS, SKILLS & INTERESTS
