While in high school; joined a pre-paid volunteer fire department in 1973 and started to learn the skills of firefighting. Doing fire calls, executed outside operations; till the proper age to do interior operations.
Enlisted for four years in the Navy, as a Hull Technician, with training for damage control and fire fighting on shipboard; and ship repairs; including welding, pipefitting, sheet metal work and plastics/fiberglass. Honorable discharge.
Was hired by the City of St. Marys Fire Department as a full time engineer on March 30, 1982; was one of three hired to start a full time paid department for the city; promoted to shift Lieutenant, until February 1985.
Was hired by the City of Kingsland as a police officer and certified in the State of Georgia as a Peace officer.
Also worked on Kings Bay naval base part time as an EMT.
Was hired on the Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay as a Fire Inspector Captain position for a year with variety of fire prevention duties, conducted annual and monthly fire inspections of Kings Bay Submarine Base Support facilities; tested and inspected hydrants, first aid fire extinguishers, sprinklers, and fire alarm systems, routine inspections of designated facilities to determine that N.S.B. Fire and Safety Regulations and National Fire Codes are complied with, issues notices of violations as required; gave instructions to designated groups concerning fire and safety regulations and proper use of first aid fire equipment.
Promoted to combat Fire Captain or back-up Assistant Chief; respond to fire alarms, hazardous material spills, emergency medical runs; and establish daily training schedules for personnel; physical fitness schedules; make pre-fire plans on buildings; write run reports and major incident reports.
Was hired by Camden County as a deputy sheriff on Oct. 11, 1990; as a patrol deputy. Promoted to sergeant; then to patrol Lieutenant. Started an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) program and a First Responder Program for all personnel. Taught 32 classes and over 160 students for the department. Scheduled deputies, in charge of vehicle maintenance. In charge of K-9 program and training. Reviewed all accident and incident reports. In charge of special operations during the G-8 Summit; and handled security measures on guarding key locations in Camden County. Researched on different groups that attended these functions to protect against it and do damage to key places to disrupt the summit; was commended by the F.B.I. and program was used for training for local law enforcement personnel. Attended EMT Tactical school. It was a detailed school on different scenarios for Swat Medic; hostage situations; dealing with tear gas and patient care; mass casualties and how to extricate patients out of a kill zone. During this time, I also worked part time with the city of Kingsland Fire department. Was relieved of duties on 01-06-05 with a letter stating services no longer needed.
Hired by the City of Kingsland Fire and Rescue as a firefighter and EMT. Working medical calls and trauma calls; including extrication and rescue. Also did fire prevention programs in local schools for children; teaching them the dangers of fire; fire safety, what to do in case of a fire; especially stop, drop and roll program. Taught CPR, AED classes to the public. Advisor for the Explorer program; teaching First Aid and Firefighting safety to juveniles, age 14 to 18 years old. Riding the medic unit: working medical calls; including extrication and rescue; I have responded to numerous instances of dynamic trauma; my duties included scene size-up; securing scenes and dealing with all sorts of rescue calls from multi-car accidents to gunshot wounds, trauma associated with police emergencies including blunt trauma and medical emergencies.
During this time-employed part time with D.S.I. security as an EMT; working at the GP plant in Brunswick.
Hired by the City of St. Marys Fire department as an engineer; then promoted to shift lieutenant. Handled all emergencies, including fire suppression, medical calls, fire prevention and rescue calls. Completed run reports and daily station reports. Gave a daily report to fire Chief of duties and operations for the 24-hour shift; including the other stations located in the City of St. Marys.
During this time worked for a security company, working at the Jacksonville football stadium. Main purpose was to guard the NFL referees.
Again, hired by the Camden County Sheriff’s office by a newly elected Sheriff as the patrol Commander; in charge of the patrol division, search and rescue volunteers and the K-9 program.
Contract employment with AMK9. Certified in San Antonio Texas, Hill Country Dog Center; with a bomb detection dog; then to Amman Jordan and certified again. Stationed in Baghdad Iraq. Worked different posts, searching for explosives (IED’s, V-vibs and sticky bombs) Also before deployment, trained with The O’Gara Group, Montross, VA. Trained on vehicle operations; firearms; grenades; defensive tactics and field first aid. Received certificate of completion Department of State. Also had Secret Clearance.
Worked with Kelley’s Towing and Recovery upon returning to the states; part-time, then full time. Drove a wrecker and responded to calls,
