• Presented and participated in meetings involving vaccine research:

• Modulation of the immune response to the severe acute respiratory syndrome spike glycoprotein by gene-based and inactivated virus immunization.

• Initial (SARS) coronavirus (CoV) are sensitive to neutralization by antibodies through their spike (S) glycoprotein, however there are variants of S that have been identified that are resistant to that neutralization. This assessment was used to lead the creation and further development through research of a vaccine for the coronavirus (SARS-coV).

Contributed to research for the Jimma Hospital Diabetes Project, which involved frequently seen patients from Jimma, Ethiopia. Contributed to blood pressure screenings and measured waist circumferences to note for any metabolic syndromes.

Assendabo, Ethiopia

Conducted research in a small village, Assendabo for the effective prevention and control of intestinal helminthic infections, which require the identification of local risk factors. The primary purpose was to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites and associated risk factors.

La Paz, Bolivia Summer 2009

Participated in clinical rotations in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Neonatology and Emergency Medicine at Arco Iris Hospital.
