ACHIEVEMENTS - PROJECTS DONE

2018 Commissioned Munali Nickel Plant ramped up and optimized production.

• MABIZA NICKEL MINE, NOVEMBER 2019–DEC 2019 (ZAMBIA) Talc Pre-Float (Project Engineer)

Lead Engineer ensured that the Metallurgical Engineer who was in charge of the project to be performed to expectation. Floating of talc was done without collector at

normal pH in order to eliminate MgO to minimum from 10% to an average of 4% before subjecting the feed to differential . The project was successful since it improved the quality of the bulk flotation and eliminated the penalty fees charged due to high MgO.

Project Overview

Floating of Talc first in Nickel Rougher stage

before bulk flotation of Ni and Cu.

Faced challenge of high Mgo in final concentrate.

CURRICULUM VITAE

Joe Mtonga - 6

Increased the bulk concentrate grade and reduced

MgO to minimum and saved $1.3M monthly.

MABIZA NICKEL MINE, OCT 2019–NOVEMBER 2019

CuSO4 ADDITION –COPPER/NICKEL DIFFERENTIAL FLOTATION

(Project Manager)

Project engineer in charge of designing and Implementing the the project so that the circuit configuration conformed with initial design. This included CuSO4 dosage optimization after copper differential flotation.

Ni reactivation was achieved at optimum dosage which

• Increased Recovery of Ni by 5%. Increased company revenue by

$30 000 monthly.

MABIZA NICKEL MINE, AUGUST 2019 – SEP 2019

DENSE MEDUIM SEPARATION PLANT (dms)

(Group Commissioning Metallurgist)

- Support was given to the construction company

- Safety was observed at all times.

- Knowledge was transferred to Metallurgists and operators.

- Commissioning was done successfully

- SWP’s were developed and reviewed

Project Overview

The project involved construction of DMS plant

At Crushing Plant to upgrade ore after crushing

From average 8%Ni to 1.2%Ni

Commissioning was successful and knowledge

was transferred from the commissioning team

to Metallurgists and Operators.

MABIZA NICKEL MINE, JUNE 2019 - JULY 2019

GRIND AND REAGENT OPTIMISATION

(Project Engineer)

Project Metallurgist in charge conducted test works in Met Lab using a crusher to -8mm and grind the feed to 75% Passing 75microns.

- Determine optimum grind

- Determine optimum recovery

- Determine optimum concentrate grade

- Compared cost benefits of the project, it proved to be sustainable. Project Overview

The project involved Laboratory optimization of

Feed grind and reagent dosage (frother, collector

CURRICULUM VITAE

Lime and Quar gum) Project work included testing of Geological Ni Ores and conduct test works in Met lab and

Subsequently interpreted results to plant scale capacity. FIRST QUNTUM MINERALS, JAN 2014 - FEB 2014

Kansanshi Mine, Zambia concentrate grade Optimization

(Shift Metallurgist)

● Created test documents and integrated test results

● Liaised with the Metallurgists

Recommended reagent dosage of Betamin

Project Overview

The project involved optimization of Betamin

Reagent to lower insols in the final concentrate

at the cleaner cells. The presence of high insols in final concentrates attracts penalties to the customer which lead to unsustainable business and lowers company income.

KONKOLA COPPER MINE, JAN 2017 - DEC 2017

Smelter Reverbs Furnace, Zambia

(Project Metallurgist)

Project Metallurgist ensured that:

● He managed the project from inception to completion. There was hourly monitoring daily.

Lead daily meetings and gave updates.

The Lufubu ore was charged accordingly.

Created Test Documents.

Operators were trained.

Project Overview

The project involved determining the fluidity

of locally cheaper flux ore (Lufubu flux ore) and compare it with lime rock. Project work included Liaising with convertor Metallurgists who approved it was not affecting the converter copper kinetics. The fluidity of the Lufubu flux ore was better than the lime rock which was subsequently replaced since we were able to easily attain higher bath temperatures which increased the feed rates and reduced smelting costs.
