CHS is a Fortune 500 company that owns 117 hospitals in 30 states. I was over a department of 26 employees responsible for Clinical IT Systems in all hospitals. Purpose and principal responsibility to successfully deploy a full suite of McKesson clinical software in 54 newly acquired hospitals that initially used various versions of Cerner Classic, Cerner Millennium, Meditech, and Keanne software.

Deployed a full suite of McKesson applications including Horizon Expert Documentation and Horizon Care Alerts, which together comprises McKesson’s clinical documentation, at Birmingham Alabama and Augusta Georgia. Horizon Clinical Infrastructure (HCI), Care Records (HCR), Order Management (HOM), Emergency Care (HEC) – Tracking Board only, Lab (HLAB) and Horizon Lab Outreach, Bloodbank (HBB – Wyngate), Med Manager (HMM), Horizon Passport, Patient Folder (HPF), Business Folder (HBF), Business Insight (HBI), Performance Manager (HPM), Physician Portal (HPP), Radiology Manager (HRM), Surgical Manager (HSM), Pathways Healthcare Scheduling, Pathways Compliance Advisor, Pathways Interface Manager, STAR Financials

Designed and implemented a Change Management process for domain strategy and risk mitigation where there was none before.

Very instrumental in standardizing the Code Description Master (CDM) and revenue cycle processes of hospitals to maximize charges dropped, reduce costs, quickly normalize returns, and remain within projected revenue boundaries.

Team lead for a committee created to merge two large datacenters. This involved physically moving one datacenter from Plano Texas to Franklin Tennessee, maintaining concurrent payrolls, email, telephone, and security systems.

8/2006 – 8/2007 Adventist Health System Orlando, FL

Senior DBA/Cerner Implementation Team

Adventist health is a 31 hospital system with IT corporate offices in Lake Mary, Orlando. I assisted in a complete redesign of change methodology and domain management to improve productivity and revenue and find major cost savings. Used scheduling, budgeting, technical delivery, business readiness, and other key project indicators to execute processes by which all projects were managed, tracked, and reported in a consistent manner. Provided assertive mid-tier leadership for driving healthcare IT projects towards successful implementations including the introduction, evaluation, and selection of new technology and the maintenance of vendor relationship. Project planning to include the formulation of project scope, definition of deliverables, creation of logical work breakdown structure, definition of major project milestones, and accumulation of project cost and benefits estimates.

Projects include:

Installed Cerner full suite at four Adventist hospitals in Orlando and Georgia

Lead the Core team that went live with Cerner (full suite) at two Florida Hospital locations in October 24th 2006 (Fish and Deland), and two Georgia hospitals (Emory and Gordon) in June 2007. Project involved constant collaboration with business partners and executive leadership. Involved with the creation of a command center at the hospitals and coordination of technical issues and help desk tickets during the rollout.

Disaster recovery and Data Center co-location

Worked with technical directors and an international team of high availability experts from IBM’s High Availability Center for Operational Competence – (HACOC) to examine AHS disaster recovery (DR) solution and explore the possibility of a second data center in Kansas. This multi-million dollar project included comparisons between the cost of current DR contracts and the cost of duplicating the data center and using it for load balancing as well as for failover in an unforeseen disaster. Worked with Cloverleaf Consulting of Orlando Florida to put together the detailed project plan while attending HACOC technical meetings at IBM headquarters in Poughkeepsie New York.

Installed and maintained Oracle 10G Real Application Clusters (RAC)

Upgraded from Oracle 9 to Oracle 10G.

Database replication, and table space growth and maintenance.

Aided in contingency planning and the design of a Disaster Recovery hot site in New Jersey.

Aided in Cloverleaf integration projects and centralized IT strategy for different time zones and divisions.

Cerner Database Administrator (Hospital CIO Responsibilities)

ORMC is a 350 bed two campus not-for-profit hospital including the largest outpatient facility in the Catskill region of upstate New York with outpatient surgery, diagnostic services, and private physician offices. The Tucker Cancer Center and Cardiac Rehabilitation programs are best in the region, and the Diabetes Treatment Center at Orange Regional is award winning in the area of self-managed patient education. While at ORMC I established an overall strategy for IT growth and support over 3 years where there was none before, and formulated policies compliant with industry and regulatory standards. I also assisted in developing annual goals for functional areas, and provided direction, assistance, and mentorship to directors.

Deployed Cerner full suite of clinical applications including Pharmnet, Pathnet, Radnet, Firstnet, Powerchart, General Laboratory, Bloodbank, Microbiology, Remote Report Distribution (RRD) and Charting.

Upgraded to release 8.0 of Cerner Millennium from 7.8.

Switched to EMC storage from IBM Shark and created an enterprise storage/archive system with projected savings of approximately $2 Million over five years even with initial capital outlay.

Provided data and substantiation for capital expenditures in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, and took responsibility for operating and capital budgets.

Conducted IT employee’s performance and salary reviews, and coached on hiring, training, and retaining technical staff resulting in the best retention rates in the area.

Evaluated processes and procedures for improved efficiency and implemented changes as necessary.

Hired an external legal firm to review and approve all clients, subcontractor and vendor contracts, and revised client contracts as needed. The contract review process was previously very limited.

Converted from Cerner remote hosting to a localized data center at the hospital resulting in company savings of $800,000 per year.

Senior Systems Analyst (IT Director responsibilities)

A 1200 bed not-for-profit tertiary care teaching hospital associated with the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. JMH is considered one of America’s finest hospitals and their Trauma Center is considered one of the ten best in the country. They operate 27 clinics/outpatient centers around the county including outreach labs all integrated into the main computer systems. At JMH I contributed to overall company strategic planning and market direction by helping in the design and coordination of the enterprise vision. Developed a three year IT strategic plan and targeted yearly objectives. Budgeted and tracked revenue and overhead with profit and loss (P&L) recording responsibility for the Cerner project.

Lead the Core team in planning and installation of Cerner Millennium. Assisted in the actual creation of locations, facilities, nursing station, and ambulatory units in the localized build process.

Designed, coordinated, and implemented an effective Change Management process that was previously disjointed, confusing, and improperly implemented.

Created weekly reporting metrics for Board of Directors reflecting continuous process improvements.

Lead the development and re-engineering of on-call and escalation procedures.

Provided oversight management for projects including design and architecture of Windows NT and UNIX servers, IBM storage, and guidance for all corporate IT systems.

Responsible for overseeing the design, planning, and implementation of mission critical business information systems based on Oracle, Oracle Applications, and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Managed different projects within the corporate structure; all aimed at developing and deploying technology-based solutions. Job involved all aspects of client and project management and had profit and loss responsibility.
