Personal Statement

As a career oriented, energetic young individual, very much interested in research work, I believe that as far as my educational qualifications and work experience with the World Bank and other organizations are concerned, I do possess the relevant knowledge and potential to involve myself in work that requires analytical thinking, in order to help formulate new strategies, policies and bring into light new ideas and suggestions, where change towards betterment is required. Furthermore, the skills that I possess in terms of communication and writing have always helped me immensely in producing quality work at the end of any task entrusted to me.

Educational Qualifications

Successfully completed a PhD. in Economics from the University of Colombo under a research fellowship awarded by the Commonwealth Fellowship Plan

Thesis title: Trade credit in South Asian countries: a study of Sri Lanka’s trade with India, Pakistan and Bangladesh

Obtained MBA in International Trade and Logistics from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) Colombo, Sri Lanka, affiliated to Canberra University, Australia and Sri Jayewardenepura University, Sri Lanka

Thesis title: Adoption and practice of a well structured petroleum fiscal regime for off-shore oil and gas exploratory drilling operations of Sri Lanka

Obtained Bachelor of Business Management(1st Class) from the University of Bangalore, India. (received a scholarship to pursue undergraduate studies under the ICCR scholarship scheme offered by the Government of India)

Thesis title: Consumer stance towards new” Maggi Pazzta” in the Indian market and a comparative study between new “Maggi Pazzta” and “SunfeastPazzta” (Indian brand).

Successfully completed a fellowship on Natural Gas Industry Development and Technologies, conducted by the Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) in collaboration with the Korean International Corporation Agency (KOICA)

Successfully completed a general course in Diplomacy and International Relations in the year 2005 at BIDTI Colombo.

Successfully completed a course in Petroleum Economics course conducted by NEXT, Schlumberger

August 2012 till date

Petroleum Analyst, Petroleum Development Authority, Government of Sri Lanka

Job Role / Work Scope

Conducting financial modelling relating to the assessment of project economics pertaining to Oil and Gas projects undertaken by Sri Lanka

Reviewing and reforming at regular intervals the Petroleum Fiscal regime adopted by Sri Lanka

Monitoring economics for international oil and gas production

Monitoring international petroleum contracts

Maintaining correspondence with international oil companies and key government institutions

Assisting in fiscal regime design and co-coordinating the work of geoscientists and petroleum engineers in producing regular sector specific economic reports

Conducting market specific due diligence to study and understand the changing market trends and patters within the global oil and gas industry

September 2011 up to June 2012:

The World Bank, Colombo. STT/Consultant in the Urban Unit (SASDU) responsible for the following tasks:

Organizing pre-consultation sessions with professionals from the private sector and the government on the subject titled “Vision for the future of Metro Colombo City Development Strategy”

Organizing consultation sessions on the “Urban Policy Note for Sri Lanka “, in order to obtain input for the Metro Colombo Region project report preparation and also for the drafting of the Urban Policy Document for Sri Lanka.

Successfully led the organization of the First South Asia Region Urbanization Knowledge Platform, High-level Policy Workshop held on 20th/21st March 2012 and facilitated post event report preparation. Organizing this event required a combination of organizational skills, capacity to relate to high-level participants and partners, closely working with the management team at the Bank. My strong performance was recognized both by the Bank team and by the participants.

July-August, 2011

Worked at GAC shipping as a management trainee in the Shipping Operations Department.

June-July, 2010

Successfully completed an internship with Supply Chain Division of Nestle Lanka PLC, Colombo, Sri Lanka and received an overview of the Import/Export Shipment related business functions of the company which included Import Documentation, Tracking of Shipment, Export and Re-export procedures

Developed a standard operation procedure and a process flow diagram for import documentation and tracking of shipment for Nestle Lanka PLC.

Works as a UN volunteer on a constant basis and is presently involved in launching the 70/60 publication in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of UN Sri Lanka
