Developed vision, architecture, and Roadmap, and am implementing Hybrid Cloud (Private on-prem and Public Azure) and OpenShift container strategy and tactics in U.S. and abroad. Includes orchestrating IaaS and PaaS provisioning (Terraform), metering, governance, security as well as site reliability practices; also, am standardizing containers and micro-services.

Supported Agile/Waterfall software development and testing, continuous integration/content delivery/automation (CI/CD), Web services and DR. Estate included Linux/VMWare/Wintel, Oracle/MS-SQL/MySQL, IIS, Apache, and Tomcat/JBOSS instances hosted on blades and connected to SAN/NAS fabric. Explored no-SQL/big data DBs.

Initiated, planned and drove upgrades/re-platforms/consolidations, “untangling/re-architecting messy past implementations” as well as governance. This simplified and improved on-going support and site reliability, instilled service excellence, reduced operational costs and positioned the firm for future expansion as ASP/SaaS provider. Managed the support of a large J2EE/Web-based Time and Attendance application implemented at the City of New York.

Led a staff of 35 that supported platform (Unix, Windows, Cisco switches/routers/load balancers, SAN and VTL/Silos), Data Centers/Rooms, COTS software (Websphere, Tivoli Identity/Authority Management, IBM Webseal), Oracle RAC, security (firewalls, vulnerability/application scanners), Biometric data collectors, content delivery, Mainframe downloads. Included project/non-project workload and work breakdown, process creation, P&L, SLA, KPI reports to stakeholders.

UBS Wealth Management Program/Project Manager (Consultant) Mid-2007 to Mid-2009

Planned, drove and tracked (using SharePoint/other tools) migration/transformation ($500M budget) of 1,000 apps from 5 Data Centers into 2 new facilities. Planned, drove, managed and helped QA a $5.5M voluminous GRID-based Oracle Data Warehouse migration (from a huge Legacy db), staffed on/off-shore, that saved $16M and provided efficiencies, analytics and future product offerings.

Architected, evaluated products, and managed a J2EE/SQL monitoring project to track performance statistics and identify bottlenecks on NYSE’s eCommerce Websites; it integrated monitoring agents utilized by CDN/external service providers.

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL GROUP (AIG) Mid-2002 to Mid-2005

AIG Technologies, Solution Delivery/Engagement Manager

Key member in transforming AIG Technologies from a cost-based Data Center to a for-profit organization that host/support internal/external/global customers. Contributions included designing solutions and implementations (using ITIL framework), creating products and charge-back models, SLAs, standardization, cost savings, process development and vendor relations.

Matched proper infrastructure to business apps, developed and managed customer/business relations, and assumed overall responsibility for the projects. Generated $36M in revenues by creating business proposals, technical designs and SLAs. Senior Systems Director, Department Head

Head of the Distributed Systems Infrastructure Department that standardized, implemented and supported Unix/Windows Web/non-Web and database servers and numerous Java/C/VB applications. Also, member of the IT Strategy Committee.

Managed, coached and developed 50 Unix/Web/Windows professionals (including 4 developers), increased their technical and industry knowledge to achieve company goals and objectives. Built an organization that increased productivity by 75% through platform standardization, processes and procedures (using ITIL concepts), and project planning/management.

Created a System & Web Engineering team (“DevOps” model) and a Project Management Office (PMO), and re-built the Web Support and the Systems Support teams. Had budget, run-rate, staffing, salary, and project pipeline responsibilities.

“Change Sponsor” thought leader and influencer for many technological initiatives in support of a Roadmap that I co-authored. Global Equities Infrastructure Support Team, Manager

Managed (staffing/budget responsibilities) a 10-person Unix, Market Data and eCommerce team that supported, standardized, and implemented low-latency/high-performance Sun-based Equities trading/trading-support servers and desktops, Market Data/Research and Intranet/eCommerce servers. Additionally, implemented ITIL concepts which learned in in-house class.

Initiated and led a multi-million infrastructure upgrade, from low-end machines to fast Enterprise class servers, that improved trading execution and tracking by 50%, and handled increased volume due to extended trading hours and decimalization.

Consolidated many Application and Sybase servers and other software – thus improving supportability and cost savings.

A major contributor, in a number of global initiatives that streamlined corporate NOC and Data Center standards, reshaped security practices/policies, re-designed DMZs, Web and eCommerce infrastructures and enhanced system/Web monitoring.

Notable Accomplishments:

Led the team to a successful and smooth Y2K Rollover that required substantial infrastructure and software upgrades.

MERRILL LYNCH 1995 to 1998

Enterprise Technology Services, Manager

Managed, hands-on, the Internet Support Services group that designed, implemented, and supported Web environments, perimeter security firewalls, encryption, and authentication servers in several locations. The team, 10 engineers, also provided the infrastructure for secure delivery of Market Data and Research information into/out of Merrill Lynch.

Deployed server-farms, and developed framework/procedures to support/manage (99% uptime) Merrill’s first eCommerce sites that grew to about 1.5M financial users, and Merrill’s Intranets.

Notable Accomplishments:

Envisioned and built the Internet Support Services group that had unique technical responsibilities, and provided “one-stop shop” to Internet/Web and security support. These functionalities and scope were unmatched in the industry at that time.

CHASE MANHATTAN BANK 1992 to 1995

Trading Technology, Team Leader – Systems Engineering Group

Led, drove technical architectures and solutions, and project managed two large concurrent efforts in support of domestic and global trading environments: one team installed security software and developed procedures for U.S. and overseas; second team implemented elaborate system administration framework using Tivoli, and integrated it with the BoKS security software (first of its kind in the financial industry). Team members included security/systems administrators, software developers, business users, and auditors. These projects were featured, as a cover story, in a prominent technical magazine that praised the foresight, technologies, methodologies and teamwork exhibited during the projects’ lifecycles.

Notable Accomplishments:

Influenced products’ architectural changes that transformed system management and advanced security technologies and methodologies into what was among the first business mission-critical production sites to use these innovative features.
