As a research assistant it is my responsibiltiy to help identify, travel, and test for Covid-19 for underserved and vulnerable populations in West virginia through community and state partnerships. These partnerships have included national Guard, first responders and health departments throughout the state. I started this position in January 2022 during the peak of omnicron outbreak of Covid. Additionally, I performed literature searches for presentations and publications of findings grant.

STAY-AT-HOME MOM
Successfully raised two wonderful children to young adults with goals and ambitions for college and career. During my time as a stay-at-home mother, I used my technical writing skills to obtain a 2011 Innovation Zone Grant for my children’s elementary school to build a fitness trail and outdoor classroom. I also worked briefly for WVU Eastern Panhandle Residency and participated in multiple grant writes for research. During this time I volunteered at the Jefferson County Community Ministries in Charles Town WV for a period of 3 years. My primary responsibility was intake interviews for new and current clients to determine what services they were eligible for that were provided by the ministries and to train new intake volunteers. I home schooled my son for part of his middle and high school. This involved daily classes, scheduling, editing, grading and portfolio collection to be reviewed by the County School Board. During this time, I also served as a volunteer for a mentor program for elementary school students and was the parent representative for my children’s elementary LSIC committee that prepared and presented a progress report annually for the County School Board. I was also an active swim parent for 8 years for my children’s summer, year-round and HS swim teams.

Created, implemented, and evaluated messages designed to reduce risk or increase prevention of significant occupational safety and health issues. Created and maintained a database on significant occupational safety and health topics. Developed educational and informational written materials, presentations, and displays for general and professional use. Prepared written documents for appropriations of project funds. Created, implemented, and evaluated focus group and survey materials. Developed effective interpersonal relationships and worked collaboratively in teams and contributed to outcomes of a mutual goal. During this time, we also spent much time in the occupational communities doing surveys, focus groups and talking with workers about their jobs and thoughts on what could be improved as far as safety barriers. I traveled around the US and spent time on work sites like construction sites in Boston MA, silver and lead mines in ID, coal mines in PA and WV, state fair in Lewisburg, WV talking to farmers about the dangers of methane gas and multiple conferences in Chicago, New Orleans, Louisville and DC talking with Industrial Hygienists and Firefighters.

Created and maintained databases of research information that were related to specific health communication sources. Collected and analyzed data that targeted health messages and to help develop preventive health communication messages.

Conducted research in the areas of positive and negative reinforcement, shock avoidance, fixed/variable ratio and interval schedules, and the effects of drugs on those variables. I was responsible for data collection, data analysis, care of laboratory animals, and scheduling of research facilities.
