Dear Collider Hiring Manager,
I’m a senior at Western Michigan University, majoring in English and minoring in Communications, and believe me when I say that I’m already putting those skills to use. I’m the Program Director at 89.1 WIDR FM, as well as a blog-writer and DJ; and an intern at the writer’s lab at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. At WIDR, I became Program Director during the COVID-19 pandemic. My team and I had to learn fast to keep the station a oat and train incoming volunteers to write, edit, and broadcast content, as well as rebuild our ancient website with Wix. Since then, I’ve hired an entirely new, motivated team; bulldozed and replaced all of our years-old imaging; and helped build a forward-thinking social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. I also host two weekly shows on the station. For one, I play fun, new pop-music while the other is a lm-review show. I’m pro cient with both broadcasting equipment and an audio DW, depending on whether I’m going out live or prerecorded. I also know how to write scripted content for pre-recorded shows, and entertaining pieces for our blog, many of which are lm reviews as well. I can safely say that I’m leaving the station in a far better place than it was when I arrived. I am also a trusted resource by my colleagues as a writer and editor. At Kellogg Community College, I was not only taken on to write a series of handouts and presentations on grammar, punctuation, and literature, but also was part of a proofreading team for the seventy- ve page “Ultimate Bruin Success Guide”--given to every enrolled student. I also write lm reviews for Western Michigan University’s Western Herald, which has helped me understand the importance of making tight deadlines. If these are values that you look for, I think I’m your guy, and I hope more than anything to live up to that standard. It’s exciting to think that I could be a valuable addition to a writing team, because I can’t go a day without doing it!
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Hank Melluish
