Using a range of specialized tools, they are tasked with building or repairing structures such as walls, archways, piers, monuments, or tombstones.

Responsibility:

Reading and interpreting structural blueprints.

Determining the materials and equipment needed for the project. Mixing grout and cement.

Cutting and shaping stones to desired dimensions.

Laying stones according to construction plans or project specifications. Operating cranes, hoists, or heavy machinery to move stones. Digging trenches using a pick and shovel.

Smoothing and polishing stones and concrete.

Tile fitters install tiles onto walls and floors. They cut tiles to the right size and shape, prepare the surface, and put the tiles in place flush and straight. Tile fitters may also take on creative and artistic projects, with some laying mosaics.

Meeting with clients to discuss their tiling and marbling needs. Measuring the area that must be tiled or marbled to determine stock requirements. Providing clients with accurate quotes for the intended job. Ordering stock supplies and gathering tiling equipment. Cutting and shaping tiles or marble to size.
