Duties:
My duties as a shipfitters are to read blueprints, I.R'S or guidelines of the drawing and markup weld symbols and leave lose and make up everything that the drawing calls upon. And use tools as cutting wheels Grinding wheels and Straight grinders and Sanders or sand blasting machines or torches and plasma machines or other tools and sanders and levels and pump bobs and a touch to cut or preheat it needed also using an arc rig in order to remove metal to sound metal. And take measurements to recheck water lines but lines and center of structure and MC lines and using a square to make the job a 90 degree angle and or structure or to what it says the drawing calls for. Also checking the joints for proper weld joint makeup and using a plazma cutter to cut material as well. And also using pull lifts and rams and jack clamps and steam boat jack and magnets in order to hold structure in place while tacking with a stick line and by using the right stick metal such as 7018, 10718, ex.. Doing all my duties as a shipfitter as safe as i can.
Welding requirements.
I am qualified to Weld stick and stick only. I can weld carbon steel to carbon steel materials and I obtain the proper certification to do this process.
When welding as a welder you must know what the welding symbol is and the two materials prior to joining/ welding and you must know and verify the material type and thickness prior to welding.

Lead/ and helped oversee the preparation of material for welding jobs in the SPF Shop. Received WICC from supervisor. Ensured the correct drawings are being utilized for each specific job. Ensured the raw material matches the Bill of Material on each drawing (Material Type, Item Number, Material Thickness). Ensured that all general notes have been read and applied job specificly. Verified if the drawing had any Inspection Reports or eIRs. Verified if any pre-heat or interpass procedures were needed or applied to any specific needs of that job.
Ensured proper tools were present and utilized to complete each job. Ensured the job is safe without hazardous material around. Performed tack welds with the proper pre-heat and interpass in accordance to drawings and welding procedures. Ensured the tack welds were properly cleaned, inspected, and ready to be given to the welding trade for the next job interface. Performed other responsibilities and duties as assigned forklift experience. And rigging experience as a shipwright. Achievement of build 6 inner bottom units saving 800 man hours on 20 platen in Newport News shipyard.
