2012 - 2022: Technical Director, EHS and Industrial Hygiene Practice Lead for APAC and the western US, Environmental Resources Management, Limited (ERM) and was based in Malaysia and Walnut Creek, California. ERM is one of the world’s largest environmental and sustainability consulting firms with over 150 offices globally. This was a global senior technical consulting position on sustainability, environmental, and occupational exposure assessments and control designs. Developed EHSS management programs, conducted EHSS and Chemical Risk assessments and audits, due diligence property risk assessments, ISO HSE audits, and HSE and Industrial Hygiene training and mentoring.
1985 - 2011: President, Spaul Environmental, Inc. I started and developed this international EHS consulting firm (Florida and Venezuela) and sold it after about 25 years. In addition to the traditional EHS consulting services to a wide range of clients, I also served as a technical safety and exposure expert for US litigation. I also conducted property and safety liability insurance audits and due diligence audits for commercial property transactions, along with construction safety and exposure audits for clients. For some clients during public environmental concerns, I also served as a technical spokesperson to the public.
1984 - 1994: Graduate-level University Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, College of Public Health, University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Developed the Industrial Hygiene and Safety program, and the teaching laboratories for Chemical and Physical Agents, along with an Industrial Ventilation Laboratory at the newly funded College of Public Health for Florida. I was a full-time professor for 5 years and then served as an adjunct professor for another five years while I was developing my consulting EHS firm. I developed and taught Industrial Hygiene, Safety, and Ergonomics classes, and advised graduate level research thesis and dissertations. Also served as a technical spokesperson for the State of Florida on environmental areas of concern. I left USF to develop my consulting firm.
1974 -1988: Commander, US Navy. Active duty Naval Industrial Hygiene Officer (IHO) from 1974 to 1977
(San Diego), and between 1978 and 1988 (California and Florida), I was a Naval Reserve IHO and Preventive Medicine Officer, and served as the Commanding Officer of a Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit, and the Executive Officer of a large Naval Reserve Hospital. I left the military to develop my EHS consulting firm.
