• I taught Educational Research and Human Development to those working on their
Master’s Degree for Westminster’s Graduate School. I was selected to teach by Dr.
Robert Zorn.
1997-present English Language Arts Teacher, Blackhawk High School in the Blackhawk School District.
Administrative experience as an English Language Arts Teacher include the
following:
• Wrote the English 8 curriculum and entered it into the Atlas program so that it can
be viewed to colleagues, students, and members of the Blackhawk Community
• Supervised pre-student teachers.
• Supervised and worked with student teachers and their university supervisors.
• Revised the eighth grade English Language Arts curriculum to incorporate Seminal
Nonfiction selections along with current literature selections as they are directly related to the current Common Core Standards.
• Served as an English department member in rewriting six courses according to the PA Assessment Anchors and Standards. In addition, this experience gave me the opportunity to work with all K-12 Language Arts teachers as we vertically aligned the entire English Language Arts Curriculum.
• Integrated the Curriculum Diagnostic Tool online assessment that provides teachers with diagnostic data with regard to the specific areas of one’s content area that needs to be covered, re-taught, or enhanced before the PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) proficiency.
• Participated and trained teachers in Pennsylvania’s new PVAAS (Pennsylvania Value-Added Assessment System) whereby I, along with colleagues, have actually been able to determine what needs to be done differently in the classroom to show academic growth for each student’s academic year as related to the No Child Left Behind Act.
• Participated in several learning support meetings whereby I worked with the Learning Support Teachers so that we could design individualized education programs that would accommodate students with special needs.
• Implemented an online assessment program for my eighth grade English Language Arts classes which has improved instant feedback for students taking objective assessments.
• Served as a member of the district curriculum council and curriculum data team.
• Implemented two new textbooks into my eighth and ninth grade English class along with instructing students on how to use the online version of the texts. The selection process in which I used was to make sure the books were research-based before actual selection.
• Administered and scored the 4-Sight Assessments as a formative evaluative measure to determine student success on the PSSA.
• Used the www.successforall.com 4-Sight website and produced individual reports for all students after each formative evaluation.
• Served as a substitute assistant principal for three days as an on-hands actual field experience in administration.
• Served as a member of the English department interviewing committee for the hiring of new English teachers.
• Mentored three new teachers.
• Observed and evaluated the instruction of the three new teachers I mentored.
• Served on a district wide PSSA Writing Improvement Committee.
• Developed and implementing formative quarterly assessments in both reading and writing.
• Evaluated curriculum assessments and data management.
• Implemented and evaluated a new online grade book program with colleagues and members of the Blackhawk Community
• Served as a member of the district’s technology committee where I worked with administration, colleagues, and community members.
