Brief Summary of Qualifications
Ongoing learning and experience in Emergency
Registered Nursing (1991-20017) at the Veterans
Administration Medical Center (VAMC); 1996 – 2003
Advanced Practice Nursing and Charge Nurse in
Sacramento, California and North Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Urgent Care, the Medical Treatment Unit, North Sacramento, CA. Specifically, this was a “RN Charge Nurse Sharing” position on alternate
evenings. Throughout my dyadic Nursing Practice
(working as a Registered Nurse and/or a Nurse
Practitioner – for I usually continuously worked two jobs. During these clinical practices; physicians, and their Mid-level Assistants, taught me well in my
advanced practice learning environment. Oftentimes
(usually daily), I was challenged to keep-up and
exceed the pace of the four providers on MTU – each of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult
patients were routinely seen by the RN before
physical exams and medications or treatments or
transferred to a higher or lower level of care after diagnosis and stabilization.
What was my personal outcome? Without a
doubt, after working in MTU during evenings, as an Advance Practice Charge Nurse, and VA-ER during
the day, my role in nursing, from approximately two years (2003 2005—MTU closed; Kathy Miles, NM
retired) advanced practitionership became much more challenging and exact when routinely evaluating
patient physical-psychosocial, & addictive needs, and utilizing other non-addictive multifactorial
2
pharmacological interventions and care .

symptoms, to provide individualized treatment plans.
