CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
As a Neonatal fellow:
Working in a tertiary care centre such as Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences gave me a vast exposure
to various sub-specialities such as Pediatric cardiology. Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Neurology, Fetal
medicine and interventions, Pediatric Genetics and many more.
This allowed me to set up a professional network af interpersonal relationships with various colleagues
and other professionals.
learned to deal with emergencies while working in a high pressure environment having 16 Intensive
care cot beds and 6 high dependency care beds.
During this period-
Managed sick preterm babies from 23 weeks gestation
Transferred intubated babies on ionotropes between hospitals via Ambulance.
Looked after high risk surgical cases like congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
Handled various modes of non-invasive and invasive ventilation including high frequency with
inhaled nitric oxide.
* During this COVID 19 pandemic, attended deliveries of infants (plus extremely preterm
neanates) born ta COVID 19 positive mathers, conducted various procedures an them including
intubation and umbilical catheter insertions while wearing level 3 PPEs.
* Regularly took classes for nurses and postgraduates and participated in departmental teaching
programmes including Morbidity and Mortality meetings, critical appraisal of journals and several
presentations, Was also involved in selling up the monthly on-call duty roster for both consultants
and fellows.
As a Consultant Pediatrician:
Gained experience in managing and improving my decision-making skills in both In and Out patient
areas while regularly updating my knowledge by attending CMEs. workshops and conferences.
As an Assistant Surgeon:
* Working in resource limited settings gave me experience to work with countless challenges of
setting up the health care centre, dealing empathetically with patients from several different
backgrounds and recognizing and promptly dealing witn medical and surgical emergencies.
