Planning and coordination of clinic activities, diagnostic procedures or work-up with health care providers
Coordinate patient hospital admissions and discharges for treatment of pain
Coordinate and management of palliative and end of life care with medical providers when appropriate
Provide 24 hours on call availability of cancer patients / family and Home or Hospice Care Nursing for continuity of palliative / terminal care
Provide psycho/social counseling to patients / family regarding pain, cancer and end of life issues
Make home visits to patients / family unable to travel to the pain clinic for assessment and care
Manage and coordinate care of patients with implanted Medtronic Intrathecal pumps, or spinal cord stimulators: DuPens tunneled epidural / intratheical catheters with pumps or intravenous catheters with PCA pumps for treatment of acute, chronic and cancer pain in the clinic, home or in-patient settings, including:
Coordinate in-patient trials of intrathecal Baclofen or narcotics for placement of Medtronic implanted pumps
Coordinate out-patient OR trials of spinal cord stimulators
Provide OR assistance to physicians placing Medtronic pumps or stimulators at the University Hospital
Provide pump refills or adjustments to stimulator (clinic, in-patient or home setting)
Plan and provide education to medial and nursing students (RN and NP), medical staff (hospital and clinic or home care), patients and family and community. Focus is on assessment, management of acute, chronic and cancer pain, use of implanted / invasive devices for treatment of pain, medications and other pain treatments / procedures, including:
