EHRVI-Emergency Home Repairs Virgin Islands

September 2018-2019

The EHRVI STEP-R Program provides Disaster Reconstruction Relief Services, for homeowners who experienced damages or were displaced by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

As Case Manager, I have helped applicants move forward through the process of making their homes secure and safe after the passing of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. STEP-R was strictly either permanently repairing or rebuilding the roof. I followed the FEMA criteria that was required to support the permanent roofing, which included sound bond beams and/or support of solid walls, not compromised by the storm. There were Cap Waivers,

Assessments, QC Assessments, Roof Hardening Inspections, DPNR Inspections, and FEMA Final Roof Inspections; all which needed to be scheduled by the Case Management Department.

When problems arose regarding the home owner’s construction, the Case Manager would be the first person that the home owner would contact, and then the case manager would trouble shoot the problem and get resolution from all, in the chain of construction.

I was given the more difficult files that had problems complying with the Program or that were files that had Contractor Fraud Claims. The Home Owner would contact me when problems arose, regarding Certificate of Occupancy, or Elevation Certificates or other documentation; I guided them with the direction that they needed to correct and/or obtain the documents. At times, I would work with Surveyors, and Townships, on resolving problems, when requested by the homeowner.
