Design / Quality Engineer

● Created custom hydraulic flow unit for Alcoa Warrick Operations, after presenting the prototype I built, commissioning for the build of four total units, plus an additional standby unit. I was solely responsible for estimate, Bill of Materials, material selection, design, PLC programming of flow meter, instructions and installation.

● Project manager for largest project (rebuild of 9600Hp Elin DC motor) undertaken during the company’s existence.

● I worked closely with the mechanics and machine shop to ensure quality standards for custom parts, new parts and tools met or exceeded for each customer's specifications.

● Responsible for AutoCAD design creations and revisions for projects requiring draft work.

● Worked closely with maintenance to ensure all equipment and PLC units worked as intended including programming for the PLC units.

● Mining systems and structure demolition rebuilds, and/or new equipment installation were the primary focuses on a daily basis.

● Overall project completion success was dependent on team leadership as well as their abilities to perform a wide variety of skill sets. These skill sets include but are not limited to weld ability, weld equipment usage, drawing package and “bill of materials” comprehension, concrete form erection, following designated rebar schedule, accurate measurements, fabrication capabilities, working in confined spaces and on high platforms or structures.

● Overhead crane signaling and rigging experience was valued. Knowing and following state and federal regulations pertaining to the applications and industry standards in addition to any additional site-specific guidelines was mandatory per job and state.

● Projects included but are not limited to coal hauling truck dumping hopper, aboveground and underground belt structures, belt drive motors, motor housing assemblies, belt drive pulley install, 3 counterweight install, belt drive shaft alignments and assemblies, Switz City train loadout belt structure demo and rebuild and drive/pulleys/counterweight setups, safety restraints and more upon request. Maintenance Technician

● Solely responsible for general maintenance and upkeep for all facility equipment including HVAC water collection and distribution in addition to on-shift equipment malfunctions impeding material production.

● Ensure electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, plumbing, gauge display accuracy, etc. for safe operation properly functioning to meet material quality expectations for customer satisfaction.

● Some daily tasks included fabrication/welding repairs, extrusion auger replacement and cleaning, “pelletizer” blade sharpening and/or replacement, grease equipment and other maintenance procedures throughout the warehousing, distribution, production and testing labs operation and maintenance.

● Clearly document all preventative maintenance and unexpected repairs performed on every shift for inspection records.

● Welding certification granted after completing Henderson Community College welding training course requirements for satisfactory weld abilities.

● Used electrical and hydraulic prints to troubleshoot and repair industrial mining equipment.

● Responsibilities revolved around safe operation and routine maintenance inspections for out-by and in-by mining equipment to maintain production expectations. This also included on-shift or on-the-fly repair work on equipment using any means possible for safely maintaining production expectations until time or “maintenance only shift” became available for lengthy repairs of damaged or inoperable equipment.

● Maintenance personnel was expected to set the standards for following the strict state and federal laws/regulations pertaining to anybody performing work on heavy machinery and electrical equipment for surface and underground mines was mandatory.

● Regular and random inspections were common occurrences at this facility to ensure following of all laws and so crews would understand reasons for enforcement to avoid consequences/penalties to the company or individual(s) caught. Some consequences could be heavy fines for the company or individual, possible loss of certifications, employee suspension and/or termination, cease of production, possible jail time and death made it necessary to have such intense enforcement of these policies.

● Assisting the Surface Mine Maintenance Operation Director to apply engineering and science skills I acquired in college for real world applications to gain experience.

● Due to demonstration of a high level of aptitude in the industry of coal mining and required equipment maintenance, the director requested a second consecutive summer internship opportunity be available for me.

● Calculated and analyzed Bucyrus Drag Line rebuild, project labor and materials cost.

● Setup regular maintenance scheduling plans and alerts into SAP software for all Peabody CAT surface mine equipment for their new Columbia Rebuild Shop.
