Position: SENIOR DESIGNER- TOWNSHIP SERVICES (URBAN ENGINEERING)

My designation as a township services designer with Africon Westville spans over a period of 40 months whereby I have been involved in 15 projects ranging from bulk earthworks for sportfields to township infrastructure services. The main focus of my experience has been in township infrastructure services that included

Conceptual design, Preliminary design, Cost estimation, Detail design and Site

Supervision.

The scope of my experience on concept design covered aspects like formulating schematic layouts for the engineering services, which formed the basis of the town-planning layout. This included identifying suitable road layouts, identifying catchment areas for sewage and stormwater, feasibility studies and estimating construction costs.

My experience on preliminary design included determining design parameters, determining road reserve widths, typical road cross sections showing position of servitude’s, calculating run off for stormwater and sewage and preliminary sizing of pipes and culverts. My duty also extended to producing preliminary layout plans for the services namely roads, stormwater sewer and water reticulation.

The scope of my detail design experience included route location, geometric and pavement design of the roads, stormwater analysis and the detail design for the pipe reticulation, calculating flood lines, detail design for the sewer and water reticulation and producing construction drawings on CAD including typical details. Other duties included measurement, preparation of the schedule of quantities and estimation of construction costs.

My site supervision covered daily supervision to ensure compliance with the project specifications, quality control like testing of pipes, checking compaction on layerworks, pipe bedding and backfill, issuing of site instructions, drawing up of payment certificates and correspondence with various local authorities.

Position: CIVIL ENGINEERING SERVICES DESIGNER – INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES

My employment with Aricon P.M.Burg extends over a period of 78 months whereby I have worked as a designer for 48 months and as an assistant resident engineer for 30 months. As a design technician, I have been involved in 13 projects ranging from the design of a minor landfill site to township infrastructure services.

As an assistant resident engineer, I have been involved in 3 contracts ranging from the construction of bulk services to plumbing.

The scope of my experience as a design technician covered the geometric design of the roads, detailed stormwater analysis, detailed design of sewer and water reticulation,

plumbing and producing construction drawings on CAD including typical details. Other duties included measurement, and estimation of construction costs.

My geometric design experience covered horizontal and vertical alignments that included details like pi coordinates, setting out details, calculating grades, k values and finished road levels.

My experience as an assistant resident engineer covered daily supervision to ensure compliance with the project specifications, quality control like testing of pipes, checking compaction on layerworks, pipe bedding, backfill, on site survey and design, measurement and assisting the resident engineer in drawing up of payment certificates. KZN : DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT

April 2008 to March 2009

Engineer for the Rehabilitation Design and Supervision for P20-1, P398 and P395. A total of 30 kms of heavy rehabilitation was undertaken. The project was successfully completed with minor challenges due to the varying nature of the underlying layers. .

April 2007 to March 2011

Engineer for the Detail design, drawings and pavement design for Phase 1 and 2 of P73 comprising of 20kms, Detail design and Drawings of Phase 2 and 3 of P732 comprising of 12kms, Detail Design of Phase 2 of P728 comprising of 10kms and Detail design of Phase 5 and 6 of P58 comprising of 10,2kms.

Construction of P73, phase 1 comprising of 10kms was successfully completed. Phase 2 is currently under construction.
