Director of Pharmacy/Pharmacist Manager
Vidant Pungo Hospital - Belhaven, NC
October 2011 to August 2012
Overall management of the pharmacy and personnel. In charge of pharmacy inventory control and formulary management. Managed budget and tracked department expenses.
- My key role during transition from Pungo District Hospital to Vidant Pungo Hospital was to convert from Omnicell to PYXIS (a different automated dispensing technology which I was and am very familiar with since I implemented the first PYXIS at what is now Roanoke Chowan Hospital back in the 1990's). During conversion I learned the basics of order entry and verification of the Vidant Pharmacy Computer system.
- As a member of the Vidant Team I attended the monthly Pharmacy Directors meeting at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville and served on that committee. This Vidant committee included all the acting Vidant pharmacists at that time. Our job was to make system-wide formulary decisions for all Vidant facilities and take those changes back to our facility.
- I worked diligently during this key transitional phase to insure the pharmacy switch was as smooth as possible. This involved working closely with the Vidant IT department as well as the entire pharmacy group from several Vidant facilities. I was in charge of the switching over to Vidant protocols and order sets during this key transition. During this experience I became familiar with Physician order entry. Vidant order sets and verification of orders using the EPIC system. This process has surely evolved over the past few years but I am certain I would be able to remember the basics and catch on quickly in another Vidant facility.
- I insisted that I stay on in order to make the transition from Pungo District Hospital to Vidant Pungo Hospital prior to taking on my next role as Pharmacist Manager at a facility closer to home and at a higher rate of pay. PRN

- Managed operating budget, performed revenue analysis, made key purchasing decisions and trained pharmacists and technicians on the use of the PYXIS machine and converted the facility from Omnicell to PYXIS Automated Dispensing cabinets.
- When the CEO said we were becoming a Vidant Facility I insisted on seeing that transition occur and occur smoothly so I put my personal life aside to insure this happened.

- Instrumental in the conversion from Roanoke Chowan Hospital to Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in its infant stages. At the time our facility was the first Vidant subsidiary after Vidant in Greenville. At that juncture EPIC was not the primary system used by Vidant. Meditech was still in use at that time. I quickly catch on and was quickly proficient in order entry and verification of the few order sets that did exist at that time.
- I continued to perform all other standard staff duties such as, but not limited to checking for drug-drug interaction, drug disease state interactions and doing a complete and through drug regimen review on all new orders and especially on all new inpatients.
