EXPERIENCES:

Senior Health Communication Advisor (Since September 2003- Feb 2011). Working with Communication for Healthy Living Project (Johns Hopkins University) for the development of health communication programs and materials in coordination with non-governemental organizations (both national and international).

IEC Specialist, John Snow Inc., HM/HC Results Package (1998-1999). Working as the technical expert in IEC for maternal and neonatal health activities for the HM/HC Results Package in close partnership with health offices at the Central, Governorate, district, and facility levels of the MOHP to develop appropriate IEC strategies that contribute to the behavioral goals of the project.

Health Officer, PLAN International, Egypt (1996). Responsible for PLAN Egypt's "habitat and growing up healthy domains". This responsibility included provision of technical support and supervision of PLAN Egypt's staff and partners to plan, design, monitor and evaluate community managed health care and habitat programs.

Project Management Specialist, Population Office/USAID/Egypt (1991-1996) Managed the design, implementation and evaluation of IEC activities carried out by the Government of Egypt's, State Information Services/IEC Center for the family planning sector. In addition, Directed public relations activities for USAID family planning projects during the International Conference on Population and Development.

Communications Manager, Regional Center For Training (RCT) in Family Planning, OB/Gyn Hospital, Ain Shams University (1991). Developed and redesigned training packages and audiovisual materials for physicians and nurses in the field of family planning emphasizing participatory training approach.

Instructional Designer, the Medical Education Center, Faculty of Medicine,Cairo University,World Bank Project (1986-1990). Designed, implemented and evaluated teacher training workshops on curriculum design and advanced teaching methodology. Designed instructional packages and audiovisual materials jointly with the medical faculty.

Assistant Director, the Medical Education Center, Cairo University (1980-1986). Organized and participated in seminars and workshops to upgrade medical education systems and integrated curricula for clinical teaching. In addition, helped in establishing the organizational structure and staffing for the center and its different educational facilities.

From 1981 to 1983, worked as a team member in establishing the physical facility which houses the Medical Education Center. Responsibilities included development and follow-up of the construction timeline, management of procurement process for various audiovisual equipment and office furniture.

Working with the World Bank consultants from Dundee College of Technology, and Boston University. Assisted in implementation of the major components of the Third Education World Bank financed Project.

Director of Student Scientific Society, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University (1977-78). Worked closely with the Medical School faculty and students to arrange and manage medical conferences, seminars and workshops.

CONSULTANCIES:

2010 to 2022 :

UNICEF and the National Population Council; worked as Strategy & Training Consultant on the development of Strategies and training materials for the 1000 Days Initiative for Maternal and Child health. Materials developed for the National Population Council helped in capacity building of the council and their counterparts at the national level.

The office of Minister’s Council; worked as a Communication and Training Consultant developing and implementing training packages for their junior staff on “Materials Development and Pretesting. This training helped in later development of Government Services Website

The World Health Organization; helped as a Communication Consultant in review, analysis and development of strategies in relation to “Smoking in the Egyptian Drama”.

The National Council for Women as an active member in the Health Committee. The work of the committee helped initialize the national health insurance system and formalize several women health policies working jointly with the Egyptian government.

Management Sciences for Health; worked closely with the Ministry of Health in Aswan, as a Leadership Consultant, in a project entitled “Improving Performance of Nurses in Upper Egypt” (USAID funded Project).

The World Health Organization through Johns Hopkins University Project in Egypt Ask/Consult for Health. During this assignment I worked as a Training Team Leader to provide training of trainers for Sudan National Cadres working in the field of HIV\AIDS”.

The Population Council; worked as a Training Consultant to develop and implement a training program for junior researchers on presenting/ communicating research to policy makers.

Assuit University (JHU project) in Upper Egypt, worked as Training Advisor to train Ministry of Health physicians on Communication Leadership.

The Ministry of State for Family and Population; worked as Strategy Development Advisor, to develop "Communication and Advocacy Strategy" for the ministry.

Worked with Ministry of Health & UNFPA as Strategy and Policy Development Consultant to develop a background paper for policy and decision makers at Ministry of Health & Ministry of Finance to increase support & subsidy for contraceptive security

Worked with OUDA, as a Training Advisor to design and provide training course in “ Project Formulation, Monitoring and Evaluation. This course was provided twice (in Arabic) to the staff of the “Arabic Council for Children and Development”. The same course was provided twice for middle level managers from the Ministry of Social Affairs in April and May of 2002.

Worked with SPAAC as a Communication Consutlant to assist in evaluation and development of IEC materials for MOHP sustained quality service provision in the field of family planning and reproductive health.

Worked with NAMRU 3 as a Qualitative Research Advisor to design a “Qualitative Assessment Study” to identify current practices and beliefs, of target population, regarding infection control and safe injection practices.

July-August, 2000

Worked with Pathfinder staff as an Evaluation Consultant to conduct a needs assessment of three Egyptian NGOs working in the field of family planning and reproductive health in Aswan, Minya and Assuit.

1997

Worked as a communication Consultant to develop a concept paper for Johns Hopkins University, Population Communication Services., The paper focused on the fortieth day postpartum and its potential use for maternal and infant wellbeing.

1996

Worked as a Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant with PLAN Egypt's staff a complete to design “Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation System” for PLAN Egypt. In addition, designed and facilitated a program planning workshop with PLAN Egypt's senior staff to finalize this system.

1990

worked as a training consultant for the Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) Component, Child Survival Project, Ministry of Health/Clark Atlanta University (USAID funded Project). This work involved development of a training plan, review and editing of reference manual for physicians on ARI case management and development of a training course for physician trainers.

1989-1990,

Provided consultancy to the Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University to design medical education curricula.

1982

Evaluated health science in elementary schools in Egypt for the American Health Foundation.

Libya: Providing training for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Libya in "Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, in January 2011 as part of Technical Assistance provided by "Ask Consult" Egypt.

Abu Dhabi: Providing training for Health Authorities of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) twice; first in "Social marketing and strategic communication for Behavior Change" in 2009, and second in "Monitoring and Evaluation in 2010 as part of technical assistance provided by Johns Hopkins University

Yemen: Supporting the National Population Council (NPC) in Yemen in preparation for their Population Conference in 2009.

Tunisia: Providing training, for middle level health managers Tunisia Ministry of Health, in "Communication and Campaign Planning with Emphasis on Tobacco Control" in 2009.

Syria: Training in "New Trends in Strategic Communication and Media Relations for the MDGs" in 2007, through UNDP.

MENA Region: Training in Monitoring and Evaluation for NGOs working in HIV in the MENA region in 2007 Through NAMRU 3 in Egypt.

Iraq: Training Medical Professionals of Iraq Ministry of Health, "Virtual Leadership Development Program" (through the VLDP Iraq website) in 2006. The initial training was conducted in Jordan/Amman. This training was provided through Management Sciences for Health.
