Started a new PICC Team in collaboration with the director of education. Implemented guidelines for VAT and created guidelines and indications for PICC line and Midline placement. Introduced power-glide midline as an alternative to PICCs, Midline, and IV, which benefits patients who are admitted or may get admitted for greater than 5 days. Educated nurses on CLABSI, starting peripheral IV and in managing central line. Collaborated with materials management in ensuring all floors are equipped with the correct CVAD dressing change kits. Collaborated with unit managers in ensuring nurses are trained in managing all CVAD. Collaborated with hospitalist and infectious disease providers in ensuring orders for central line will be placed only when the patients meet the appropriate criteria. Following the formation of the VAT team, hospital observed a decline in CLABSI rate, use of unnecessary TPA’s to declot the line, and decrease in the number of unnecessary PICCs and midlines. There was also a sharp decline in the utilization of outside sources for placing PICCs and Midlines thus financially benefiting the hospital. PICC RN
