PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Autism Center of Nebraska, Inc.

Direct Support Professional( DSP) January, 2022 – present

I work with a 42 year old client with Downs Syndrome who also exhibits aspects of autism. He lives in a residential setting with 2 other clients with whom I also spend time with at the beginning of and end of the day. As a DSP, our goal and mission is to ensure that the client gets out into the community and interacts with other people in various settings and activities. These may range from playing basketball at a Community Center, going to museums, parks, shopping malls, libraries, grocery and retail stores. It can be challenging but also richly rewarding. This is a full-time position.

Methodist Health System, Omaha, NE

Medical Coder I (CPC-A) October 2020 – August 2021

Worked in the Medical Coding Department at the Corporate Health facility. As a Medical Coder I(CPC-A), I worked primarily in the Outpatient Division coding Pathology procedures and tests for 4 of our Methodist Health System hospitals and clinics. This was a full-time position.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER, OMAHA, NE

Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) August 2016 – December 2018

Worked in the Microbiology Department performing testing on a variety of human specimens. This testing included setting up cultures for growth, isolation, and identification of potential bacterial pathogens. We also set up antimicrobial susceptibilities on these pathogens to assess which antibiotics that would inhibit or prevent their growth. We used a variety of testing and identifications systems to accomplish this: Vitek II, Bio-Merieux Mass Spectrotometry(MALDI), and API. Along with identifying microorganisms, our department utilized various instruments for immunological and serology testing to screen for and identify pathogens in CSF, oropharyngeal swabs, nasal washings, and blood cultures. These included the Bactec Blood Culture System, Cephid, and Film Array. Our rapid testing included testing for Flu A & B, RSV, C. difficile, Campylobacter, and E. coli 0157, Strep A and B. This was a full-time position.

In the interest of brevity, I will list previous work experience as a Medical Technologist, as well as my 4 years as an Inspection Specialist II for the College of American Pathologists. I will gladly provide more extensive details for each position upon request, as well as any references requested. All of the positions listed below, were full-time positions.

PREVIOUS HEALTHCARE EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER

1.St. Mary’s Hospital, Jefferson City, MO., April 2016 – July 2016. I was employed as a Traveler working temporarily in their Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Microbiology(limited) Departments.

2.Unity Point Health Center (formerly St. Luke’s), Sioux City, IA., August 2015 – February 2016. I was a Traveler at this facility for 6 months working a split-shift arrangement from 11-7pm. I worked in their Microbiology Department primarily performing set-ups, Gram stains, rapid testing on their Cephid and other test kits for C. diff, Campylobacter, E. coli 0157, and Group A & B Strep. This was a ver busy lab which performed testing on specimens received from at least a dozen area clinics and smaller hospitals.

3.Abaxis Veterinary Reference Laboratory, Olathe, KS., May 2014 – April 2015. I started out as a Traveler but eventually was employed full-time by Abaxis as an employee for their company. We performed testing on a wide-variety of mammals, reptiles, and birds and received specimens from all over the United States and even Central America. I primarily worked in the Hematology department. My employment ended there when our company was bought out by a competitor and they closed our facility.

4.St. Mary’s Medical Center, Blue Springs, MO., Medical Technologist from March 2013 – October 2013. Rotated through all areas of the laboratory, primarily in Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Blood Bank, and limited Microbiology. Left due to frequent staff changes, including our Manager.

5.Lab Corp-College Park Family Physicians, Lenexa, KS., worked as a Medical Technologist running a small, clinic laboratory. June 2012 – December 2012. Duties included performing all the Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, and Urinalysis testing in an 8- physician clinic. My duties also included performing phlebotomy, ordering supplies, and ensuring that we were in compliance with various regulatory agencies.

6.Center Point Medical Center, Independence, MO., March 2011 – March 2012. I worked and rotated in all the areas of the laboratory, Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, and limited Microbiology.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

38 semester hours in Medical Coding coursework at Metropolitan Community College, Omaha, Nebraska. Courses have included: Medical Coding(21.5hrs), Medical Terminology(9.0hrs), Disease Processes(4.5hrs), Introduction To Health Insurance(3.0hrs). I have achieved an over-all GPA of 3.7.

Passed the American Academy of Professional Coders(AACC) Certification Examination(CPC) taken July 11th, 2020.
