Oversee the day to day activities in the lab. Specifically responsible for:

Overseeing all operations and tests in the lab

In situ sampling of materials

Coordination of all activities related to the sampling and testing of materials

Work closely with AREs and Inspectors of Works to ensure quality is upheld

Compile and check all data from tests carried out before handing over to the Inspector of Works

Ensure that materials being used fit within the specified limits of the specifications, and raising flags as and when necessary

Work closely with the Inspector of Works, reporting on a daily basis on all activities

Ensuring that all laboratory equipment is in good condition

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Mr. Kalwashi has 9 years’ experience in the road construction industry, specializing in quality control and materials testing. He has experience in the field of road construction materials and methodology, as well as laboratory experience in soil testing and analysis. He is capable of carrying out all the standard tests on construction materials including sand, gravels, stone, concrete, etc. He is fully familiar with the laboratory equipment at Rankin Engineering, including the testing of UCS.

Materials Technician - Detailed Design of Kitwe Chingola Road Dual Carriageway way (43km).

Carried out field testing including DCP and trial pitting. He is responsible for laboratory testing of all gathered sample, including tests for Grading, Atterberg limits, MDD, CBR, etc. Also carried out stabilization tests for gravel sampled, including testing for UCS with different ratios of cement.

Materials Technician - Detailed Design of Mongu-Kalabo Road

Carried out field investigations, including trial pits, dynamic probing using the Competitor Rig, SPT, etc. also responsible for diamond drill rig exploration to identify geotechnical conditions of more than 30 bridge sites. Was also responsible for identifying potential borrowpits. Responsibility also included laboratory testing of materials including grading, atterberg limits, CBR, etc. as well as tests on stabilized materials.

He worked on the Upgrading of 0km of Pedicle Road in Congo.

Duties included:

Submitting all daily reports to the Materials Engineer.

Preparation and determination of Maximum Dry Density (MDD) of soil samples.

Data entry of all daily results using Microsoft Excel and doing the entire test in Laboratory.

Preparation and determination of sieve analysis of soil samples.

He worked on the Rehabilitation of City Roads in Kabwe, Kapiri-Mposhi and Ndola.
