Conducted administrative duties including orchestrating call schedules, assisting the ambulatory clinic steering committee, and upgrading the departmental library. Lectured residents and medical students. Organized and supervised morning report teaching sessions. Fostered teamwork by organizing activities such as high ropes courses and basketball games. Continued to be clinically active in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Congestive Heart Failure Database 1999 - 2002
Designed, programmed, and maintained a clinic database that monitored medications, lab values, and visit frequencies. Promoted optimal management of patients with severe congestive heart failure.
• Wilderness Medicine 1999 - 2005
Taught Wilderness Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Provided medical care on various expeditions such as kayaking, rock climbing, and mountaineering. Lectured part of a month- long course for the Wildness Medical Society culminating in a five-day practicum of wilderness medicine and outdoor survival along the Appalachian Trail.

• Diagnostic value of the EKG Component of Dobutamine Imaging Studies in patients with conflicting EKG and Imaging Results
Preceptor: Laszlo Littmann, MD, Department of Internal Medicine Dates : August 1999 – 2001
Description: Prospectively collected results of dobutamine stress images and comparing with angiographs. Goal was to determine whether EKG or imaging component was more predictive of angiogram results. Assigned predictive scores to each component of EKG, echo or myoview, and presence of chest pain with dobutamine infusion.
• EKG Indications of Hyperkalemia
Preceptor: Laszlo Littmann, MD, Department of Internal Medicine Dates: March 1999 – 2001
Description: Analyzed the erroneous doubling of heart rate by EKG computer analysis that may indicate the presence of hyperkalemia. Although various conditions can theoretically cause double counting, it is 90% specific for hyperkalemia. University of Southern California
• Evaluated the impact of pollution in LA Harbor and Long Beach on the embryonic growth of marine life
Dates: September 1989 - April 1990
Funding: University of Southern California Student Research Grant Description: Grew embryos of indigenous marine life in coastal waters from Southern California to quantify viability. Areas of higher contamination were identified and deleterious developmental effects were documented.
• Evaluated the ecological re-establishment of an illegal oil-dumping site closed by the EPA Dates: 1989 - 1990
Funding: Chevron
Description: Determined the progress of soil remediation by culturing, typing, and counting aerobic/ anaerobic bacteria. The study demonstrated that the petroleum by-products continued to kill nitrifying bacteria long after the EPA halted the dumping. PERSONAL INTERESTS
