My roles and responsibilities as Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff included:
Quality and patient safety: Participated in Quality and Patient Safety committee meetings. Worked with other leaders to improve hand hygiene scores and reduce the rate of 5 Hospital Acquired Conditions (CLABSI, CAUTI, VAP, SSI, pressure ulcers). I am proud to report that the hospital is in the top 90th% in quality scores compared to other Children's Hospitals nationwide. Served as a physician champion for a PI project to enhance treatment of septic shock in the ER.
Performance improvement: Participated in several committees to ensure implementation of evidence based medicine and created several pathways for the most common disease diagnoses.
Chair of professional review committee: reviewed safety alerts involving physicians' clinical or behavioral issues. Met with physicians and developed a performance improvement plan and a mentoring process. Referred to wellbeing committee when needed.
Utilization management: Attended Pharmacy, Therapeutic and Utilization committee meetings. Reviewed challenging cases with case managers to troubleshoot any hurdles to providing care.
Bylaw committee: Chaired the committee and revised bylaws involving the medical staff. Updated/created policies and procedures as needed.
Patient satisfaction: Attended the Ritz Carlton Leadership Education Program to provide customer centric culture.
Worked closely with hospital management to implement changes to improve patient's experience and satisfaction. As a result of implementing those changes and related principles in my own clinical practice, my patients' satisfaction scores were amongst the highest in the hospital (90th-95th %)
Pediatric Residency program: I was involved in establishing a new pediatric residency program affiliated with Stanford University. Attended multiple workshops and completed many on-line courses to learn the structure and requirements of establishing a residency program
Chair of Medical Executive Committee (MEC): Chaired the monthly MEC meetings, where top management leaders and department chairs met to discuss high level policies and outcomes of patient care
Credentialing and Privileging Committee: Participated in the credentialing and re-credentialing of Medical Staff members. Reviewed suspended physicians and reason for suspension. Contacted involved physicians if necessary to rectify the situation.
Capital Budget Planning Committee: Yearly meeting with senior hospital leaders to review several projects and prioritize them according to necessities.
