Objective:

To obtain a position that utilizes my strong communication skills, outstanding personality, and 20+ years of working knowledge of everything from physician credentialing, medical billing and insurance authorizations, to answering phones, and scheduling appointments, while working with people in healthcare administration.

Experience:

September 2020-Current Kindred LTACH Hospital, Melbourne FL/Health Unit Coordinator-PM

Working as the second shift unit secretary, duties include but were not limited to, answering phones, collecting demographic information from patients and/or patients family members, collecting signatures on admission documents as needed. Assist in the maintinence of multiple shared Excel Spreadsheets, which are updated nightly with current information pertaining to patients, patient conditions, any discharge plans and barriers to discharge. A consult log outlining all of the consults ordered over the last month, tracking when the consult order was placed and then the physician subsequently saw the patient for the consult, and whether the consult was performed within the appropriate amount of time, based on hopsital policy.

Working in the registration department of “The Birth Place” responsibilities included; Collecting patient infromation, demographic, insurance, and a breif medical questionnaire. Contacting the correct insurance company to verify coverage, and obtain the details of patients policy as it relates to childbirth. Then requesting authorization if necessary. Tracking mothers and babies hospital stays to ensure that if furthur authorization is required, it is requested within the timeframe allotted by the insurance company.

As a medical secretary my duties included but were not limited to, answering a multi-line phone system, scheduling appointments, taking accurate messages from patients for the MD, collecting the information needed from the patient for the MD to review. Also referred to as the Unit Secretary. As a health unit coordinator (HUC) Isupport the medical staff in the emergency department, by keeping the facility organized and coordinate communication between patients and medical staff. Including but not limited to, placing work order request to other departments to handle any issues that may arise in the department, answering all incoming phone calls made to the emergency department, as well as contacting consulting physicians and facilities, preparing patients charts for admition, contacting other medical facilities to arrange for transfers and gathering all the necessary documentation to support the transfer. This position requires that I be highly organized and able to multitask on many projects simultaneously while always being aware of patient privacy and HIPAA.

Greeting patients as they enter the emergency department. Collecting and inputing demographic information into Pulse for billing purposes. Verifying insurance information, using Passport, collecting signatures and insurance copayments and coinsurance. Counseling patients that do not have medical insurance on the various options we offer to help them pay the bill or get them qualified for some type of assistance. Answering phone calls and directing them to the proper extension, or helping them myself if possible. Working with other ASR and medical staff to insure every pt is seen by registration prior to leaving the ED.
