PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Ask.com is one of the leading search engines and Cognizant is engaged in various projects for the enhancement of Ask search and distribution of Ask Search. This involves building and maintaining multiple products for supporting and enhancing Ask.com features including the site front end and back end systems
Ask.com is a very complex system that includes 40+ products working in tandem to deliver a seamless search experience to the end user. Ask.com search results are served from millions of diverse data sources available across internet by crawling through the sites available over the internet.
Ask.com blends several relevant search data from diverse data sources to the web results. These search data includes related searches, events, recipes, TV Listings, etc. The most critical product of Ask.com is related searches, which are other queries that intend to serve the same purpose as that of user’s search query. These results are identified by understanding the semantics of the various queries available over internet. The faster search experience is provided by effective indexing system built.
CLIENT DESCRIPTION:
IAC Search & Media was founded in 1996 in Berkeley, California by David Warthen, CTO and veteran software developer, and by Garrett Gruener, a venture capitalist at Alta Partners and the founder of Virtual Microsystems. Founded as Ask Jeeves in 1996 and renamed Ask.com in February 2005, Ask.com is recognized for innovation in search technology and search interface design.
Ask.com is a leading search engine on the Web. Millions of people turn to Ask.com to get what they are looking for online every day.
Ask.com sites include Ask.com U.S. (www.Ask.com), Ask.com Deutschland, Ask.com Espana, Ask.com France, Ask.com Italia, Ask.com Japan, Ask.com Nederland and Ask.com UK. Ask.com brands also include Ask.com Mobile, Ask for Kids (www.askforkids.com) and Bloglines (www.bloglines.com.).
A wholly owned business of IAC (Nasdaq: IACI), Ask.com is headquartered in Oakland, California with offices throughout the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia.

Project Title
Version Management system (A custom PDM application)
Duration
Mar 2006- Oct 2008
Hardware
Pentium series IV
Location
Chennai
Operating Systems
Windows XP
Programming Languages
J2EE, Swings
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Product Data Management (PDM) is software used to control data related to products. PDM creates and manages relations between sets of data that define a product, and store those relationships in a database. It is an important tool in product lifecycle management.
The Version Management system is an extensible, engineering content management framework developed on J2EE platform and deployed in phases in GM PowerTrain engineering environment. The key goals of the Version Management system architecture is to ensure data sharing and reuse across the engineering lifecycle so as to minimize redundancies and human errors in the engineering process and improve engineering productivity.
Tool and external Software integration with the system play a key role in enabling data sharing and reuse since the software and tools used would vary across the engineering lifecycle (ex: Matlab, TestStand, Microsoft Word, etc).
The information being stored and managed will include engineering data such as models, drawings and their associated documents (requirements, specifications, manufacturing plans, assembly plans, test plans and test procedures). The package also includes product visualization data. The central database will also manage metadata such as owner and release status of the components. The package will: control check-in and check-out of the product data to multi-user; carry out engineering change management and release control on all versions/issues of components in a product; build and manipulate the product structure. This enables automatic reports. This significantly enhances the effectiveness of the launch process.
Advantages:
* Protect project files with simple security;
* Accelerate return on investment with easy setup;
* Spend less time organizing and tracking design data;
* Improve productivity through reuse of product design data;
* Enhance collaboration.
Capabilities:
# Storage and retrieval of product information
# Handling of business process flows
* Change management
* Revision Control
# Product Structure management
* Product configurations
* Product variations
* Product versions
# Project tracking
* Reports of material
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

●Responsible for designing the screens and user interfaces for a perfect look & feel, and ease-of-use for the end user.
●Preparation of the High Level and Detailed Design documents following HCLT processes.
●Development of various technical standards and ensuring the implementation of the same.

Project Title
SNIA - Conformance Testing Program
Duration
Oct 2008 - Nov 2009
Hardware
Pentium series IV
Location
Chennai
Operating Systems
Windows XP
Programming Languages
Java,XML
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The SNIA-CTP is the testing process to validate the implementation of storage functions and assure they conform to the existing standard. It is a command line tool. This testing process is a critical building block in the effort to make multi-vendor storage operate in a predictable manner for end users. Products that pass the SNIA CTP offer IT Professionals more confidence in the management interoperability of the technology they are purchasing – reducing the risk when deploying complex networked storage solutions.
The SNIA-CTP was developed with the potential to test and certify multiple storage standards. Each emerging SNIA architecture may make use of the SNIA-CTP process to offer the same reliability and certainty of implementation as desired for the SMI-S program.
Preparing the conformance test suites is an intensive process requiring that the specification be developed and tested thoroughly against product implementations followed by an interactive process of developing the test code itself. The process requires the cooperative effort of the SNIA technical work groups, highly specialized test developers, and vendors to implement various phases of the completed test suites.
The SMI-S is large in scope and covers a wide variety of storage device functionality and concepts. To create focus for developers, the specification has been sub-divided into a series of “profiles,” i.e., storage array, fabric, server, storage library—”domain structures”. A device may support one or more of these
profiles. The SNIA-CTP test suites have been designed to test compliance of a vendor’s SMI-S implementation to one or more of these profiles. Since there are a variety of devices being tested and the SMI-S profiles are based on WBEM (CIM and CIM/XML), each configuration will be tested from the CIM/ XML client interface.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
●Requirement Study and analysis
●Designing and creating the process flow of application.
●Preparation of the High Level and Detailed Design documents following HCLT processes.
●Development of various technical standards and ensuring the implementation of the same.
●Enhancements estimation and planning.
