Summary
I am the modern matron responsible for the professional leadership of the Cardiac, Liver, and Neuro theatres, demonstrating a supportive and flexible leadership approach and a proactive, responsible attitude to promote confidence in the team and the service.
Highly skilled coordinator for multiple clinical areas ensuring theatres is staffed optimally and conduct regular establishment reviews in line with service needs. I manage and authorise the roster, staff sickness, and annual leave allocation ensuring that staffing is allocated according to the right skill mix. I ascertain that staff are competent and have adequate appropriate training. I work meticulously with infection control and complete audits to maintain high theatre standards.
I attend weekly meetings with the CSSD managers & senior management to monitor sets and instrumentation.
I coordinate with the estates to maintain and ensure regular theatre maintenance. I act jointly with another matron, senior management, senior nursing team, and the theatre staff to lead and ensure consistently high standards of practice in our clinical areas. I attend monthly risk and governance meetings and actively investigate adverse incidents to ensure patient and staff safety.
I monitor budget and finances, working closely with finance officer and procurement to monitor staff establishment, bank and agency monitoring, and stock budget control. I actively participate in the scheduling meetings, scheduling, and staff recruitment to ensure that my department works well within the budget whilst managing staff in the department. I am currently the modern matron of Cardiac, Liver, and Neuro theatres and simultaneously for Main Theatres when the other matron is away.
I am a hard-working, highly skilled theatre matron with proven exceptional clinical abilities, managerial skills, leadership, communication, and organisational aptitudes. I hold the ability to work completely autonomously at a senior level within an organisation, efficiently and effectively managing staff, human resources, budgets, and finances. I am highly adaptable at managing projects, effectively delegating to my team, whilst also providing high levels of support. I promote a cohesive team with a positive hard-working team culture. My effective transformational leadership, with a high team focus, is portrayed through the engagement of my staff's constant consultation and good communication in line with my senior management team. I constantly promote teamwork with high-quality patient care, actively troubleshoot, problem solves, and manage any conflict resolutions. I am a highly committed individual to the effective running of my department, ensuring the safeguarding of the staff and patients at all times. Personal Achievements
• Chairing the Matron’s Forum in the Trust from December 2021 to May 2022
• Actively involved as a matron in delivering service and staff provision within the trust ensuring management of the safe practice and maintaining high-quality service even during the Covid 19 pandemic.
• Actively participated in the major refurbishment of the Main Theatre Department including recovery.
• Key participant in the planning and the opening of the two new Liver and HPB theatres
• Budget and finance control through Omnicel projects, robust monitoring of bank & agency

• Redesigned WHO Surgical Safety Checklist specific for Liver Theatres

• I have also been actively involved in organising the launch of the first Liver Transplant National Study Day for Nurses in the country last September 2018, which had 300 participants.

01/01/2020 to present Theatre Matron: Cardiac, Liver and Neuro Theatres
Being in this role has given me invaluable opportunities in promoting confidence in the team and the service. During this time, I have taken on an even more challenging role in which I can transpire my effective leadership style by being actively involved in managing staff and their allocation amidst the uncertainties of the Covid-19 pandemic which even nurtured my knowledge and skills as a leader. This has even driven my desire to be more motivated and proactive in providing guidance, support, and leadership to all theatre staff and not only within this busy Cardiac, Liver, and Neuro teams, facilitating safe operating practice to ensure outstanding patient care.
I also make sure that I am highly visible, accessible, and approachable to staff, patients, and the public to ensure that open and honest communication channels are created and sustained. Ensuring all areas are staffed optimally and in conjunction with the clinical floor coordinator deliver the day-to-day theatre operational service and conduct regular establishment reviews in line with service needs.
To further enhance my knowledge and skills, I will be taking up the Leadership course which encouraged me to develop a deeper and clearer sense of my strengths and development areas. This will also strengthen my existing leadership practice through cutting-edge theory, evidence and practice. The programme will help me develop new ideas about how best to work with others through change and understanding different leadership approaches as well as the challenges related to change and my relationship with them.
01/03/17 to 31/12/2019 Band 7 – Liver Transplant and HPB Theatre Nurse Manager
(Scrub and Anaesthetic Practioner)
The Liver service at King’s College Hospital is one of the busiest in Europe and is at the forefront of many innovative treatments for liver disease. We are the supra-regional and international treatment referral centre for liver transplants and hepatobiliary surgery. As the Band 7 of liver theatres, my duties include: Provide professional leadership by acting as a role model and maintain responsibility for the organisation and management of over 40 members of staff with three operating theatres. Services include the NORs team for multi-organ retrievals in Europe, adult and paediatric liver transplants, multi-visceral transplants, liver trauma, hepatobiliary, laparoscopic, general, and bariatric surgery.
Liaise within the multi-disciplinary team, promoting and maintaining effective communication.
Effective financial skills management and budget control. Appropriate resource management.
I ensure that my staffing is well covered and supported. I manage staff sickness, rostering, and annual leave allocation, utilising the nursing establishment to ensure adequate coverage to achieve high standards of nursing care and this includes managing performance, conduct, health and sickness, recruitment and retention, and also appraisals. I ascertain that my team has had adequate training and is up to date with their practice and competencies, promoting an effective learning environment and ensuring the appropriate facilitation and supervision of teachings for staff and any students. I am responsible for the implementation of safe working practices, maintaining the health and safety, and well-being of patients. This is through ensuring all staff comply with the local and national policies in all aspects of care. I work meticulously with infection control to maintain high theatre standards. I have weekly meetings with the CSSD managers and senior management to monitor our sets and instrumentation for our theatre.
I coordinate with estates for our regular theatre maintenance (every three months) and our HEPA filter change (every 6 months).
I participate in scheduling meetings, Band 7 huddles, risk, and governance as well as a review of policy and guidelines.
I ensure the appropriate risk management and completion of risk assessment, incident reporting, and investigation. This includes any complaint investigation and then relevant resolutions. I examine incident reports (datix) and audits with the patient safety team and help create a safety net to prevent any untoward incidents from recurring. 25/07/2005 Band 6 - Team Leader

We carry out 250 or more liver transplants per annum which include Live-Related, Split, Domino liver transplants, Multi-Visceral Transplants, Small Bowel Transplants, and also Combined Liver and Renal Transplants.
I am in charge to look out the staffing level of the department on E-Roster and allocating them according to their skill-mixed.
