I am employed with the York University Staff Association (York University – Keele Campus) as the Fitness & Events Coordinator. Where I have 15 years’ experience in the fitness and Events/corporate world.
In the Events Coordinator role, I have had the opportunity to act as the interoffice liaison between elected Association Officers, 10 Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs, office staff and members. I was responsible for the planning of logistical requirements for all meetings and events. Scheduling, obtaining appropriate meeting space, equipment co-ordination, room set up, booking facilities, furnishings, equipment, catering, literature and producing the agenda etc. Preparing meeting/event related correspondence and communications. Acting as primary point of contact for meeting and event inquiries, issues, etc. Participating in post-event analysis and evaluation. Administrative duties also include but are not limited to, front line reception, answering phones and responding to emails in an often extremely busy office setting, scheduling appointments and responding to inquiries. Producing a procedure and operating manual. Computer and software skills required for the above functions – utilized all of Microsoft software (Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook, Publisher, Word Press and Skype for Business. Several additional software and programs necessary for virtual meetings, teleconferencing etc. Utilized all social media for promoting and marketing events and programs. I was also responsible for maintaining and posting all meetings, events, fitness program info, wellness seminars etc, on YUSA ‘s (York University Staff Association) website.
In the Fitness Coordinator role, I have had the opportunity to create, plan, coordinate and lead all group exercise programs. I am a CANFITPRO certified fitness Instructor specialist. I have up to date Standard First Aid, CPR Level C and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications. I am also High 5 certified. I am very passionate about health & wellness. Therefore, created a program for all ages and fitness levels. I was responsible for the implementation of the York University Staff Association fitness program from its conception. Including, music, choreography, leading all fitness classes – two one-hour fitness sessions daily. Consisting of yoga, cardio, strength training, zumba etc, while keeping pace with the ever-evolving health and wellness industry. I performed all related administrative duties, including booking fitness facilities, equipment, promoting and communicating the program. Additionally, I created and produced a monthly Health and Wellness Newsletter for the York University community. Titled – The York University - Health & Wellness News & Views. Which involved deciding on relevant health and wellness applicable information, research and writing all content, providing information on accessing additional resources.
Before my employment at York University, I was employed by the City of Barrie in the Recreation & Culture Services Department for over 5 years. In my role as the Supervisor for the cities skating program I lead and assisted in coordinating both the learn to skate, adult and senior skating programs. I utilized my skills, teaching groups and individuals. Supervising staff, planning sessions, progress reports for all participants and continuous liaison and reporting to the Recreation Programmer. Public relations skills utilized extensively with parents, skating instructors, and skaters. I was responsible to ensure all equipment required is available, clean and in good repair, properly stored and accounted for. At that time, also held a position as a fitness instructor with the City of Barrie. I taught children, teens, adults and seniors, cardio, step, strength training, spinning and Zumba. Duties included, selecting music, choreograph and lead all sessions; keep pace with changes in the fitness industry leading and creating new, fun, trend-setting programs.
My experience working at both York University and the City of Barrie has provided me with the knowledge to hopefully assist you in this position. I have working knowledge of industry best practices in the relevant specialty program area. I demonstrate the ability to always maintain the highest standard of public relations. I can perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission and values. I have above intermediate oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
