Welder (This is a federal job)

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

As a Shop 26 welder I have experience of process, resource, and personnel functions for the shop. I analyze work and consider or coordinate any support trades needed for my work. I use ATMS, to check qualifications and explain work to others.

I support any work site surveillances to assure that quality and production standards required by technical work documents, Process Instructions, job orders, etc. and have the ability and experience to perform IAB/RAB’s with other trades, management, and engineering personnel to plan work, solve problems, and obtain work status. I also keep higher level supervision informed of potential problem areas, work status, and projected completion dates.

I have the experience and ability to work from specifications, oral instructions, blueprints, weld procedures, technical documents, and other information. I work with minimal supervision and take the lead on most projects I am assigned. I determine the weld process to utilize on the job through researching the technical work instruction and ensure I possess the correct qualification prior to commencing work.

As a structural welder I determine the welding techniques and machine settings to be used, and make the required welds following specifications, accepted shop practices, and oral or written instructions. As needed, I use techniques such as preheating, heat sinks, and stress relieving to maintain specified dimensions and to prevent distortion or burning of the parts being welded.

When welding with electrodes, filler metals, fluxes, and shielding, I consider elements such as arc stability, degree of penetration, surface tension, and viscosity of the flux and shielding to determine adequacy of the welding performance. I also select the correct size and type of filler material for the particular work evolution.

As a detail oriented welder, I research TWD’s to determine the proper welding sequence and specified joint design per the applicable requirements of the specific task. During the post-welding period, I clean and inspect my work to ensure compliance for the NDT process. I utilize hand-held pneumatic equipment for grinding and finishing. I use heating, stress relieving techniques during, and after welding is complete. Prior to initiating any welding operation, I ensure the area is safe for hot work, instruct and position the firewatch (es) and protect adjacent areas and equipment from potential damage.

I utilize my skills, knowledge and ability to prefabricate, manufacture, repair, modify, rebuild and assemble various types of components. My extensive experience allows me to work with OS, HS, HY-80, HY-100, CRES, Monel, NiCu, CuNi and other alloys. I maintain and repair components on ship, submarine structures, and pre-fabricated assemblies in the shop. I consistently produce welds to the acceptance standards of non-destructive testing. My work is always completed on time or ahead of schedule with minimal or no rework. I am also proficient in welding while utilizing a mirror.

My certifications for production welding are as follows:

GTAW

SMAW

GMAW Pulse

FCAW

Plasma Cutting

Oxy Fuel Cutting

Carbon Arcing

NNQC

I have the experience and ability to:

• Translate management expectations, objectives, and goals into effective operations to accomplish

work in an efficient and economical manner.

• Complete work in accordance with regulations and specifications.

• Monitor work operations to prevent the production of defects; adhere to quality plans and requirements; analyze and investigate adverse quality trends or conditions

• Maintain detail awareness to complete multiple work evolutions

• Analyze problems and provide guidance concerning the best methods to correct them.

• Recognize situations where work was not been performed to specific directions.

• Document deficiencies on appropriate QA forms.

• Prioritize work assignments

• Evaluate requirements of technical, safety, hazardous materials, waste and other regulatory issues.

• Clearly and effectively communicate technical information and convey work instructions orally and in
