Since I was 15 years old, I would babysit for my cousins and nieces and nephews. Volunteered at Preston Taylor Ministries as part of my Middle Childhood and Adolescence class in Spring 2011. I tutored children ages 12 to 15 years old in reading. As part of my internship in Spring 2013, I helped the Family School Coordinator at Cockrill Elementary with varies tasks. One of the things she does is help the families of the students that attend Cockrill. I remember one day it was family night and one of the grandmothers of two students did not have a ride home, so the grandmother rode with me and the granddaughters rode with the family school coordinator and we took them home and we also put two boxes filled with food in my car for the family.

Education

Nashville State Community College August 2006 to May 2009

Associates of Science: Pre-Nursing

Nashville, TN

My GPA was a 3.5 when I graduated from Nashville State Community College. When I first attended college, I decided to major in nursing. I attended Nashville State Community College for my core college requirements in pre-nursing and then I applied for the Nursing Program at Tennessee State University. I got accepted to for the Associates Nursing program in Fall 2009. I finished half of the semester in nursing school and attended three clinicals and decided this was not the career I wanted to have for the rest of my life. I withdrew from the university and reapplied to Tennessee State University in Spring 2010. I wanted to do something with children so I decided to major in Early Childhood Education. I took courses in that field and The Praxis Tests were required, I took the tests three times and did not pass. I knew the tests would hold me back from graduating early. I changed my major to Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Child Development and Family Relations. I am very happy with my decision.

Tennessee State University January 2010 to May 2013

Bachelor of Science: Family and Consumer Sciences

Nashville, TN

I recieved the Certificate of Merit Academic Achievement Award for the Dean's List in Spring 2012. As part of my first seven weeks of internship in Spring semester 2013, I interned at the Early Learning Center at Tennessee State University where I taught the 4 to 5 year old class. I also did a Seminar in Vygotsky's Theory with a focus on Literacy Development and Phonemic Awareness in the Pre-Kindergraten Classroom and I presented it to the director of the learning center and the other four interns. Throughout my field of study I took many child development courses and family relations courses. I also had many service learning projects where I had to volunteer as part of my coursework. My GPA 3.5 and I graduated Cum Laude.

Affiliations

The affiliations that I would say are a part of my field of study is that as part of my internship in Spring 2013, I helped the Family School Coordinator with many things that dealt with the school and parents of the students. On Mondays, I went to do things that the Family School Coordinator needed to be done and she did not have to come on Mondays. Also, there were days where I would stay longer than what my hours were so I could complete more tasks. When I was volunteering at McNeilly Junior League Infant and Toddler Daycare, there were days where I would stay longer than I was scheduled to stay.
