2017 - 2021 : Independent Management Consultant for American Regent Inc (Pharmaceutical Manufacturer)

based in Columbus, Ohio.

Oversight and project management responsibilities for the modifications to two existing pharmaceutical

manufacturing plants and the construction of a new distribution center with packaging lines. The modifications of

existing plants involved the installation of new product lines for the manufacture of injectable drugs. Familiar with

cGMP applicable to plant construction.

2012 - 2016 : Marine Surveyor, American Bureau of Shipping.

Marine Inspector based in California and Louisiana. Providing ship and offshore structures (oil & gas) survey services to the marine/oil and gas sector. Safety inspections of drilling rigs and production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Steelwork survey inspections for new-builds; Inspection of oil and gas equipment.

2003 – 2012 : Principal, Project Marine (S-Corp) : Running concurrently with Doc Watts LLc

Advisory services to the cruise shipping industry and various US port authorities. Project management of major refit/refurbishment work, both in-service and during dry dock periods. Specific projects have included:

Project Manager for the refurbishment of the cruise vessel “Bleu de France” in Palermo, Sicily, over five-month period for Saga Cruises. Major steelwork structural modifications, machinery installations and large scale public area refurbishment of staterooms, public areas. Italy (2011-2012).

Project Oversight (owner’s representative) for the modification of two large Passenger Ro-Ro vessels for service in Newfoundland, for the Canadian Government. Both vessels shortened and extensive structural modifications. Work involved oversight of shipyard fabricating procedures for steelwork and equipment installations to the client’s requirements, together with risk assessment, FMEA, accessibility and environmental reports. Work undertaken at Lloyd Werft–Bremerhaven-Germany, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Canada (2010-2011).

Refurbishment of Grand Class ships for Princess Cruises. Managing logistics, regulatory issues, cost estimation and ship area management. Work undertaken in San Francisco Dry-Dock, Grand Bahamas Shipyard and Victoria Shipyard, BC, Canada (2008-2010)

Refurbishment of the cruise ship Pacific Dawn for Princess Cruises; area management of a major part of the conversion, responsibility for regulatory issues, project cost estimation and logistics. Structural design of steel and aluminum modifications; Undertaken in Australia and Singapore (2007-2008).

The project management of dry dockings of Seabourn Cruises ships, Seabourn Spirit, Pride & Legend, refurbishment of all major public areas (Grand Bahamas and Singapore 2006-2007).

Production of a study into the shore side treatment of ballast water from cruise ships visiting the port of San Francisco for an environmental agency, Blue Water Network. This study was to determine the feasibility of treating the ballast water from ships at a shore side facility, to mitigate the impact of invasive species (2006)

Major refurbishment of Holland America Lines fleet. Regulatory approval; logistical planning and scheduling of refurbishment work. Seattle and Victoria Shipyard, BC (2003-2006)

2014 – 2012 : Vice President Technical Operations, Dock Watts LLC, USA : Running concurrently with Project Marine

Advice to US Port Authorities and Ship Owners on modifications required shore-side and shipboard for the connection of ships to shore power. Participated in regulatory proceedings before the California Air Resources Board and presentations to marine industrial groups related to “cold-ironing” and shore power.

1995 – 2003 : Technical Director, Princess Cruises Ltd, USA

Special Project Superintendent for Princess Cruises, covering a fleet of ten passenger ships, with responsibilities for maintaining machinery, passenger areas and safety equipment. Expediting structural and machinery additions/modifications and refurbishment of passenger/crew areas. The above work was undertaken both in scheduled dry-docking periods in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia and “In service”, over a period of eight years, involving 30 dry dockings and prolonged periods at sea overseeing technical equipment installations, steelwork design modifications and refurbishment of passenger areas.

Project management of the worlds first high power ship-to-shore power connection facility. This was undertaken in Juneau, Alaska over a period of 9 months and permits cruise ships to connect to the local power grid while berthed (for environmental considerations); (2001)

1992 – 1995 : Ship Surveyor, UK Department of Transport (Marine Division), UK

Upholding safety and environmental standards by the enforcement of IMO requirements for ships visiting UK ports. Enforcement of UK regulations to UK ships. Approval of stability information for all ship types: Extensive steelwork surveys: Stability Assessments for all vessel types. Structural Fire Protection and Safety Equipment surveys.

1990 – 1992 : Principal Naval Architect, British Maritime Technology Ltd, UK

Structural design of modifications to existing ships to increase revenue earning ability (Ship lengthening, addition of decks etc.). Design of new ship concepts (Monohull container vessels, passenger hydrofoil catamarans). Steelwork design modifications to Ro-Ro passenger vessels - to Lloyds and DNV rules in order to meet new damage stability regulations. Extensive Damage Stability assessments. Technical support to UK Naval Vessels (BMT Defense Services) – LPD, LSL, MCM and RD vessels.
