Pre-operative and Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse, Per Diem (September 2016 - Present)

Atlantic Health, Morristown, NJ - Endoscopy Suite

I currently work per diem as a pre-operative nurse admitting patients, reviewing the physician consent details along with a review of the patients medications. I review the patients understanding of the procedure they are about to have. Vitals are taken, IV inserted all with patient education. I also work in the PACU area where I recover the patient, monitor vitals and cardiac rhythm. I educate them on the discharge instructions and advise them to call their doctor if they experience and complications or adverse reactions.

I worked on the Intermediate care unit/telemetry floor before joining the nurses in the Critical Care Unit. I enjoyed my time as a telemetry nurse. I gained a better knowledge of the cardiac patient and how to handle their care. These patients require more intense critical thinking and awareness of their crisis. I admit patients on the day of their surgery and review consent forms, take vitals and insert IV. I also work in the PACU area recovering the patient monitoring their cardiac rhythm and vitals and educate them on discharge criteria.
