Profile

I am an eleven-year experienced National Certified Paramedic with thirteen years of experience in the EMS field. I began my career as a basic EMT quickly progressing through the ranks to Front Line Supervisor and Preceptor and then as a leader of an emergency operations team for the highest volume county service in the state. I have also spent time in the private sector transporting high acuity patients to different centers around the southeast United States. I am ventilator certified and assisted in the training and competency of paramedics within my service on a variety of ventilators. I hold my instructor credentials for ACLS, BLS, and PALS. I have worked in most facets of emergency medical services, the most recent being a strike medic for Oregon working both 911 and in the emergency department of a level two trauma center.

Richland County EMS – Columbia, SC Paramedic, Field Training Officer, SRT, & EOT Team 2009 to 2018

My responsibilities included running a variety of emergent calls requiring exceptional recall of education and specialized skills to make immediate assessments that determined the course of patient care. This allowed me to be selected as a member of a variety of niche teams, to perform as a Preceptor, and to advance into leadership.

Highlights:

• On average, I ran twelve to fifteen 911 calls per 12-hour shift. These calls required fast paced in-field assessments of patient and environmental situational awareness. This included the threat of physical and environmental hazards as well as safeguarding co-workers from preventable work-related injuries.

• EOT: Operated in various support or direct roles to Secret Service, FEMA, National Guard, Crisis Relief, Presidential motorcade, and community events.

• SRT recruitment course: Placed 3rd out of 30 in a rigorous process. This included testing, interview panel, physical obstacle course, mental faculty testing, and various other tests designed to grade ability to operate under immense stress.

• Logistics: Temporarily transitioned to logistics to assist the county outfitting new units with hardware, disposables, brackets, communications, sirens, some electrical components, and other equipment. Placed new and replenishment orders with vendors.

• Collaborated with Training Officers to create and implement a hands-on training course designed for in-field supervisors. The design included mega-codes, information sharing, personalized coaching, and teambuilding skills to attempt to identify areas of opportunity within our ranks.

• Twice recipient of the Richland Hospital’s Cardiac Hero award.

• Received a commendation from Providence Hospital for cardiac excellence.

• Responsible for daily documentation. This included check-offs, unit maintenance forms, corrective action reports, patient care forms, billing information, and other forms as required by Richland County.
