Materials Specialist

$70 million manufacturer of pumps and measuring equipment for the Petroleum, Natural Gas,

Manufacturing, Power, and Chemical Industries. Responsibilities include all Procurement activities

for Medium Duty Pump and Actuator Product Lines, Inventory management, optimization, and reduction, resolution of Quality, Supplier and Production Issues, Supplier Management and Development, R&D Support, Product Development, and New Product Introduction.

• Increased inventory turns from 2.1 to 4.6 while reducing inventory by 23%.

• On time delivery (customer orders) rose from 81% to 95% for unit orders. Customer

Service responses increased from 78% to 98% within the 24-hour response period.

• As Project Manager for R&D and New Product Development: Assured Costs remained within

project guidelines and that material acquisitions supported Engineering models, prototypes, and

pilot run needs and deadlines. Liaison between Engineering and Suppliers to facilitate the

exchange of ideas and process throughout the Development, Prototype, and Pre-Production

project phases. Managed the seamless entry of product upgrades and introductions through

Development, Manufacturing, and Distribution. Created spare parts lists and stocking programs

$50 million medical manufacturer of Infant Incubators, Warmers, and Phototherapy units.

Responsibilities include all Procurement activities, the management and supervision of seven departmental personnel, Supply Base Management, and New Product Development activities.

• Increased Inventory turns from 3.2 to 4.2 while reducing inventory from $4 million to $3.2 million.

• Initiated PCB redesign project to:

1. Eliminate obsolete and difficult to obtain parts.

2. Reduce lead times.

3. Update board design and reduce costs.

• Defective Parts Reduction: reduced lot rejects by 40% and reduced Work in Process (WIP) rejects by 35%.

• Reduced supply base by 40% and establish Preferred Supplier Program.

• Obtained over $450,000 in cost avoidance.

• Negotiated contracts to leverage total purchase quantities and reduce material costs.

Responsible for all aspects of Supply Chain Management and Procurement activities including completion of Government contracts jeopardized by the closure of the manufacturing facilities of specific key suppliers. Reviewed all aspects of the Materials Organization and its relationship to other departments (Esp. • Successfully negotiated completion and receipt of all material from at-risk suppliers. Resulted in receipt of more than $750,000 of critical material for Government contract, 40% which would have been lost due to supplier plant closures.

• Qualified new manufacturing facility to replace lost source.

• Instituted procedure for Cycle Counting, Discrepant Material (DMR), and ECN's.

• Improved inventory accuracy by 40% and reduced on-hand inventory by 20%.

• Initiated product improvement for crystal manufacture that eliminated integration failure of 15% on the board level and 20% on the system level.

• Negotiated $13.5 million contract for Motherboards resulting in cost savings of over $5 million. Reduced reject rate from 18% to less than .5%.
